And Astrotrain knows of which he speaks - working at a grocery store is no walk in the park. Especially on holidays....you'd think the entire world waits until Christmas Eve to do all it's grocery shopping.

Pretty much haha. One of the biggest things for me was to make sure that I learned everything that I needed to learn down the line to be proficient. Well, maybe not everything under the sun couse that'd be impossible early on, but everything that I'd generally need to know to do my job without being a complete retard over & over again. Like, I've always been a good worker physically so that part wasn't much of an issue for me, but being thrown to the wolves expecting training where there obv wasn't going to be much was definitely a curve that I needed to overcome, and it took me a good month or so before I really felt valued.

If they give you any paperwork or videos to read/watch, pay attention to them, but the real learning will come on the floor. You'll be useless in the beginning (everyone is), but if you make an effort to take note on things that you don't know & make it a point to seek out the answers instead of just passing the buck (even make a notepad document & add to it every day after work if needed), you'll be able to make things so much easier for yourself that its not even funny.

Another part was learning to manage a good balance of being helpful & considerate, without also being a pussy. This can't really be explained as well as it can be learned through a few good & bad experiences hah, but the more I learned to remain calm & look at things from their preservative as well as my own, the better I became at my job, and the easier it was on everyone.

Congrats! I'm going to try to get a job at the dollar store down the street from my house. Any tips for the interview?

Don't tell them your favorite show is Beasties because people outside the fandom can get a completely wrong idea of what that is, even when you tell them its about robots & animals.

Two big questions they will ask: "Tell me about yourself" and "why should i hire you?"

the first question you answer starting with "I am...." and fill in the blank with maybe " a hard worker" or "team player" or "always on time". considerably all of them are good. the second question is no different than the first, just say 2 things of what you said about yourself, add "and i really want the job" and you'll knock em out. Trust me, I sweated bullets when she said "Now i have a stack of applications and yours is just one of them, why should i hire you?" I simply said with a grin "because im a team player, hard worker, and i really want this job". she smiled and said "well, you've sure got me convinced" and told me the paper work i must fill out and that i need all this info and to buy the store shirt and yada yada yada.

also the biggest thing that really sells the interview, the ONE thing that teens screw up is to always, ALWAYS DRESS WITH A PLAIN DRESS SHIRT, DRESS PANTS, DRESS SHOES, AND TIE. She told my dad herself that THAT'Swhat really got her attention and thats why i made the difference. Hoped this helped :)

And TrueNomad, thanks for the protips!

You should totally wear a tuxedo but instead of the pants, wear shorts. And combat boots.
