RPGFan News - Final Fantasy IV + The After Years Go To PSP

Oh yes! Final Fantasy IV, the sequel The After Years, and new content to link both up?

No US release date yet, but I'd be surprised if we didn't get it.

I'll finally be able to play the sequel to one of the RPGs that got me into the genre! I'm suitably psyched up for this.

This is the kinda news that would normally cause Kickback to hemorrhage from his butt.

I own the first 2 chapters on the Wii, but stopped interacting with it over a year ago when I purchased my PS3 and now the Wii just sits there. I think I'd probably play After Years more if I had it on the PSP.

4 was OK but the card game in 8 was awesome, lost many hours to that game.

Really wish they'd leave FF4 alone and get to working on a FF6 remake. I need to see that world in 3D so Kefka can decimate it.

If anything we might be receiving a 3DS remake of Final Fantasy 5 and 6 amongst a plethora of great games for that system.

Square-Enix recently removed Final Fantasy V from their "in-development" listings, internally, due to development issues and going over-budget. That would be the DSi XL remake in 3D, much akin to Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV. That throws the Final Fantasy VI remake in jeopardy, if they end up scrapping V altogether.

    As for this news?

    Meh.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was very enjoyable, and I played the hell out of it. Didn't beat it, but played the hell out of it. There's no need to make a chapter to "tie the two together" ... I thought they did a decent job with the whole "18 years later" or whatever when you start the first chapter.

The best thing about the entire game though was
Kain's transformation. Having gone through the Mt. Ordeals test, only to have his depression cause his "dark mirror self" to wreck havok, then to overcome it and become a Holy Dragoon with the minor, yet totally never-mentioned-again revelation that he's actually related to Cecil (as Klu Ya calls him "my son" as he did Golbez and Cecil) and the fact he becomes an over-powered badass...
    ... yup, pretty cool!!
