So, in your opinion, what is that one figure that every collector of Transformers REALLY needs to have in their collection, regardless of nostalgia or personal preference?

Bear in mind, this topic is NOT about your personal favorite, nor is it a "if you don't own this you aren't a Transformers fan" topic. This is about toys that are either extremely iconic, incredibly well-designed, or just plain fun enough that EVERYONE should enjoy them.

I'll start off with something extremely obvious, G1 Soundwave.

As someone who grew up with Beast Wars, as opposed to G1, I don't have any real nostalgic attachment to Soundwave. But I can't help but appreciate the shear brilliance of this guy. He's got great articulation for a G1er, a deviously great gimmick in the cassettecons, and glorious weapons storage (seriously, his weapons are the batteries for his alt mode? Genius.)

What about the rest of you?

I'm with you on G1 Soundwave. He's such an iconic character and equally iconic toy. But I'd also extend that to Optimus, Megatron, and Starscream.

Damn it, why did you have to say that? I was going to say "none, there's no such thing as "if you don't own this, you're not a fan"" :p
I have to say MP Soundwave when he comes out though. It's about as iconic as it can get. He's perfect, or at least looks to be.

I say some version, ANY version of masterpiece Optimus Prime. He's as iconic for this era as he was in the 80's. He's the face of the franchise an the reason US older collectors are still arnd.

    Let's see...

G1 or MP-04 or MP-10 Prime. While personally I don't like the MP-01 mold (which naturally extends to MP-04), I think that any collection should have a Prime with a trailer.

At least one Cyberjet. This is exactly what the Basic/Scout class was about. There are so many decos you're guaranteed to find one that you like, and they're posable robots with good alt-modes and a fun enough gimmick.

The Seacons. This wouldn't be up here if it weren't for BBTS' reissue, but at $40 for the set, anyone with any interest in G1 figures, combiners, Targetmasters, Minicons, trying new combinations (seriously, the stands alone are amazing), or aquatic TFs owe it to themselves to pick this up. It's legitimately one of the best TF releases since I started collecting, and would be a steal at $60. $40 is absurd.

Any version of MP Prime and MP Grimlock for me. That isn't personal taste.....it's a simple fact that those figures are the top of their game of iconic characters. Most likely add MP Soundwave to that list by the end of the year too.

    G1 Soundwave
    MP-01 or MP-10 Optimus Prime
    G1 or MP Grimlock
G1 or MP (V2) Megatron (I just assume that MP V.2 will kick ass :) )

A classics seeker - any deco.

That mold just seriously blows me away. Not very technical but it takes what was awesome about the G1 seeker and incorporates just enough to make it feel like the popped off teh screen. Plus it's WAYYY fun to play with.

G1 Devastator. Aside from (all of) the cassette robots, he's my main and only G1 Encore purchase.

The cassette minions I collected simply to give Device Label Broadblast some interactivity, not to mention the upcoming MP-13 Soundwave. Device Label Soundwave looks neat but never interested me much since he has no cassette interactivity. Sonicron does but is such a crap figure I passed on him. G1 Soundwave I was kinda sorta lukewarm on; can't say exactly why.
