I have been noticing for awhile now, that a lot of today's figures don't look as good from the back as they do from the front. (hollowed out plastic, lots of gaps, etc.)

I remember there was a time when this wasn't such a huge issue and the toys were designed to look good from both sides, it didn't seem to be just for looks but it also seemed to add much more durability to the figures.

What are you thoughts on this growing trend? and do you think we will ever see it change, or will it just get worse in terms of asthetic and durability?

(Your more than welcome to post photos as well, some folks may need visuals)

So far the primary examples I can give is: DOTM, Some of the Generations and RTS, FoC and a lot of the Prime Figures.

MP-M01 Starscream, especially with FWI-01 add-on kit (the back is pretty much the only clear way to see both of the FWI jet thrusters XD). Dude has a very distinctive and menacing silhouette that works from either front or back, to me.

    good examples guys. :)

let's see some negatives too. like some comparison photos beween those that look good from the back and those that don't. :)

I very much love stuff like this. to me A great design composition is everything. there are so many of our beloved characters that look amazing on both the front and back.

Even a lot of the G1 figures suffer from lack of design afterthought to the back. G1 Optimus Prime comes to mind. same with Classics Optimus Prime.

I realize the moral majority of folks who collect display all their toys in static poses facing the front so the back of the toys may not entirely matter to them.

But to me a great toy is well designed all around. 1 minor example I can give for what I mean is: WFC Megatron he's got such an interesting design and the even went as far as to import the decepticon logo onto his back to match the game model.

current designs IMO don't go that far anymore.

For a bad example, might as well get it out of the way and say FE Vehicon. I still like the mold very much and in hand the back kibble isn't nearly as bad as some exaggerate it to be, but it's still unsightly and awkward just the same.

Oh yeah, you gotta love half a vehicle hanging off the back. There are so many examples of this over the years. many of them all from the Movie lines throughout. and even many of the Alternators line had this issue.

Any bot who's back has huge, flat panels never look good for me. The designs look lazy unless you're looking at them from the front, and they almost never have accurate backs.

The Transformer behind is bar none the most neglected part in any toy line ever.

    Edit: Poor MP SideAlert :(

Prime deluxe Knock Out and FE Bumblebee do an amazing job of taking care of kibble and ending up with clean and somewhat show-accurate backs.

MP-1 looks decent even facing away (though his Truck Mode looks goofy with the windowbra overhang)
Generations sky shadow Doesn't look half Bad wither Way.
If it weren't for his Exaggerated Forearms, I'd say the same about Gen. Mindset.
Generations Warpath is in the same "I make this look good" club as many other CHUG figures (Though why one wouldn't want to pose Warpath in The Foreground of a shot of some Smouldering Debris is anyone's guess)
