I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I didn't find anything recently...

I know a month or so there was a debate in one thread about whether HFTD Seaspray was a classics figure or a movie figure, with people for the most part split. After that conversation, I've found myself looking at figures and realizing that there are alot of them that could fit in more than one 'family'.

For example, just today I got Warpath, not because I collect G1, but because I feel he fits in quite nicely with the War for Cybertron family. His alt mod is different enough from standard tanks to look cybertronian, and his bot mood works well with Bee and Optimus. Maybe add a few paint apps to give him that glowy look and he could easily be the fifth WFC figure.

I actually think the only figures that don't fit in with the other lines are the Animated figures because of the cartoony look.

Well, except for Sentinel Prime, who looks a heck of a lot like G1 Sentinel Major.

I like to think of DOTM Ironhide as my TFPrime stand in Ironhide at the moment.
I like the design & think it'd be great for them to somehow recycle that into TFP.
I also use DOTM Topspin as an "extra" within my IDW Wreckers section, as soon as I can find Leadfoot & whenever they make a weaponized dlx Roadbuster, I'll add them to it as well.

RotF Bludgeon makes a nice classic bot, at least I think so.

Six inch titanium Rodimus Prime fits right in with classics.

My Classics Decepticons shelf is currently about 1/2 ROTF or Unicron Trilogy toys. They blend pretty well, ESPECIALLY the Unicron Trilogy ones.

To me, Animated Shockwave fits in with Classics Decepticons since the Animated aesthetic isn't so prominent in his Shockwave mode unlike something like Animated Swindle or Blitzwing.

I agree. Most of the TFs I have can stand together without a problem. The sole Animated figure I have does not fit in at all.

Dotm skyhammer really seems like a classics figure to me. I also just decided that dotm barricade works as a classics figure too.

Ummm.... Maybe just the Unicron trilogy figures with eachother. Mixing stuff just sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

A lot of the Energon Toys go well with Classics, mainly because a lot of them intentionally homage G1 characters i.e. Wing Saber/Star Saber, Downshift/Wheeljack, Rodimus, Omega Supreme, Skyblast/Skyfire etc.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the MP Seekers, iGear Coneheads, MP Grimlock and Yamato VF-1S which can fit in with either Masterpieces or Classics depending on whether you think their larger alt modes would make larger robots or not.

    The way I see it there's four main design aesthetics in modern Transformers;

Classics-esque: BW, RiD, Unicron Trilogy, Classics, and WFC.

Movie: Movie, RoTF, DotM, and all post movie lines.

    Animated

    and Prime

Most Movie and some individual Prime and Animated figures can fit in to Classics with a little fannoning, call it combat upgrades, after effects of pretender technology, or alien altmodes. Some Movie figures work particularly well with classics, like Bludgeon, Seaspray, and Breacher.

Hell, I plan on getting a Prime Bulkhead to go with my Classics bots. He'll fit right in with his animated refugee brethren Bulkhead and Lockdown.
