How is there not a thread on this but there is one on college NFL?

Anyway the first match of the tournament just finished 1-1 between South Africa and Mexico. Cracking finish from Tshabalala for the first goal of the tournament, sent the home fans crazy.

Hope Australia doesn't get turned over by Germany...

Good opening game for the 2010 Tournament would have enjoyed seeing South Africa take all 3 points but El Tri decides to rain on their parade.

It will take a U.S. win over England for people here to even give a passing thought about the World Cup. That's just the way it is with American sports.

I've read a few articles about the U.S. team, and it doesn't seem to me like people expect them to go far beyond getting out of their group. Their reasoning seemed fair based on what we've seen out of them during the qualifying stages. They seem to be one of the most up-and-down teams in the tournament.

Yay! a world cup thread. it's abt time man. :rock

Hopefully this thread will be active, as I'm sure there's a lot of TFW members the world over who are also football/soccer fans too.

I recorded the South Africa/Mexico game as I am at work.

Looking forward to US/England tomorrow. I would love to see the US get far, and maybe some more people in this country will start paying attention to the sport.

Yup US is one of the so-called "underdogs" team that I'm looking forward to.

'Coz I do recall in the previous world cups, the earlier US team did confound the critics by performing rather well & admirably.

Only really interested in international games (football is HUGE over here, but I seem to be in a minority as I've no interest at local/club level), so I'm hoping for a good result for England tomorrow night. :)

^If you don't have anything to contribute, don't bother to post.

Anyway, where can I find the tournament line up? Will the FIFA website be a good place to start?

Ah ha you're in the same boat as I am Omnius. in my country, the folks here are very much into EPL stuf (English Premier League). somehow I'm the odd one out, those club matches doesn't interest me tat much at all.

But when it comes to national/international level like the world cup, that's where my enthusiasm is. lol :D
