This is the first time I've found the courage to modify one of my figures. I'm not a regular poster here (I'm more active on cybertron.ca), but I'm quite proud of the result and I want to show off! FE Cliffjumper is obviously a better figure than RID Cliffjumper, except in my opinion for one thing: the feet. FE's feet are the wrong color (black instead of red), are visibly to small compared to the animated model, and not very articulated. So the idea was simply to graft RID's feet on FE, while maintaining or improving articulation and posability. So I looked through my unused figures to find the piece I needed. In the end I settled on a small piece from the ball joint donor par excellence, DOTM Starcream, who sadly lost his two arms in the operation. The little piece I needed (sorry crappy cell phone cam) The ball joint is a perfect fit for FE's leg. So all needed to do was to stick the swivel joint on the other end of that little piece to RID's foot. The resulting foot has a great range of articulation: This allows for really wide stances: The final result Of course the feet need to be popped off for transformation but it's not a big deal for me. I may put some black over the silver parts for a more screen acurate look but for the moment I'm happy with the silver on the feet as it looks good with the other silver details on the figure. Here's a nice dynamic pose that couldn't be achieved before! So, hoe did I do for my first mod? Do I show promise? Hehe Elyse
The off angle of the new joint looks a bit odd, but I can't complain about how nice the additional posability is. However, I don't think I see many people posing their figures with awkward stances for the legs.
When Cliff is in a normal stance the ankles look somewhat better. Of course I did some extreme poses to show the extent of the new articulation. But, use your imagination... it's Cliff shooting at the last moment Laserbeak who is coming straight at him from the side, and trying to stay in balance despite the recoil from his badass triple canon! Anyway, the primary goal was esthetics (RID's feet just look som much better), not posability. But I achieved both! Thanks for the feedback
Good jo but doesn't appeal to me. Nothing personal, i just dont see the point of modding a figure unless it is to make a new character instead of keeping it the same character
The goal was to achieve screen accuracy. I got a good idea, found the right piece... I had to do it! But most of all, I wanted something simple and fun to try my hand at doing stuff like that. I wouldn't try to make a custom combiner as my first modding experience! Thank you! No it's way to big and the added joint cannot move through the two panels that form the leg. I could try to find a way to store the feet in vehicle mode tough.
I don't have both figures & don't really wanna risk damaging my FE CJ, but if you wanna try it for your own personal achievement - I'd be interested to see what you come up with...
Why are people so worried about screen accuracy these days, i think the figure are as perfect as they can be the way they come in the packaging
