Has to be G1 Kup for me. But TFA Ratchet is real close.

How is Prime Ratchet "elderly"? I don't think he's presented that way at all. If he's elderly, so is Optimus, Soundwave, Megatron, etc., etc.

 

Tie between G1 Kup and movie Jetfire. They're both bad ass old dudes.

Just in case people scratch their heads at my mention of TFA Lockdown: think about it. Lockdown has been around at least as long as Ratchet has. That would make him as much an old man as Ratchet.

 

Emirate Xaaron - the best old Transformer in my opinion. Seemed to understand the balance between diplomacy and the need to fight better than most, a lot of Transformers are either warriors, or seem more like conscientious objectors.

Yoke-Tron was awesome, and got a lot of love for Kup thanks to the IDW 'verse.

 

I find that a real question in animated. Ultra Magnus, Perceptor, Wheeljack, Prowl, Lockdown, Blackout, Lugnut, and Megatron were all in the war too but only Ratchet acts elderly.

Hmmm, maybe he started drinking oil and letting himself go because of the depression caused by the events of the war.

(Sorry if that was directly mentioned in the Almanac, I don't have it and it doesn't say anything on TFwiki.)

Possibly. All those others would have been required to keep themselves in shape, for one reason or another. (though in the case of Perceptor, would you really be able to tell?) Except Prowl, who's deffinately nowhere near Ratchet's age. Just because he had a flashback doesn't make him old. (even though he was really young when he first met Yoketron)

Plus the war lasted eons, so there's a lot of wiggle room.

 

Jetfire, his dad was a wheel! THE FIRST WHEEL! And transformed into NOTHING with HONAH!

 

The series portray him as a man on his forties, and the oldest of the 'Bot team alongside Optimus, he is cranky, grumpy and seems fond of mentioning the old days. He's a middle-aged man.

 

Prime Ratchet's not elderly. The best we got was Megatron making an age crack in Darkness Rising, but because that was early and he's seldom acted elderly since I'd chalk it up to not having the character fully realised, as is with most shows in their early eps. They didn't know if they wanted to keep up with TFA and keep him old or let him sink into his own personality.

 

Jetfire by far. He made RotF enjoyable. Plus his toy actually looks like a crazy old man.

A man in his forties and another in his eighties where both around 20 years ago, doesn't mean they're anywhere near the same age.

 

Movie Ironhide is fucking old, but he's another who doesn't act elderly. In fact, his wisecracks make him seem around Sideswipe's age.

 

Good call on the fact that most of them needed to stay fit for some reason. I also wanted to point out however, that none of them act old save Ratchet and I guess Magnus as the "Badass Grandpa" trope. The others haven't changed a bit. Oh well, it's hardly a inconsistency, it's just something I found interesting enough to point out.

I also have to say that I did enjoy G1 Ironhide......the silly things that came out of his mouth!!!!! But then again I love Ironhide in general so........

 

Ratchet was in the Cybertronian equivalent of his thirties or forties when he first met Lockdown, during which time Lockdown very much came across as about as old as Ratchet was.
