Sorry if this already exists. Oh well.

I was wondering...what's your favorite toy gimmick in the history of Transformers? You can cheat and say "Gee, I really like the basic transforming one that 95% of the toys have", but that's a boring answer!

Light piping. It's a nifty feature, and I wish it was brought back.

If you meant more along the lines of play feature, then Combiners.

Transforming being the gimmick is always the best gimmick.

If not that, probably MechAlive. I also really liked Powerizers. Integrating LEDs into sub-leader Transformers (not that leaders get LEDs anymore) I feel should be something the line should go into.

Most of the time I despise gimmicks, because they end up designing the gimmic around the figure and not the other way around ending up with sad results.

But If I have to chose, it would be the colour changing when soaked (if it has a specific name I dont know it) from the G2 line.

    EDIT: And ofc combining.

There are many I like but overall its got to be Triple changing

Yes one of the vehicle modes is usually mediocre but I guess I'm more forgiving than most folks here because modern ones like
T30 Springer, TR Octane, TR Blitzwing rock imo.

Light piping is second place. Such a simple thing that goes a long way if done right. T30 Sandstorm is one of the best.

And while lights/sounds are usually cheesy, getting the G1 Transformation sound is awesome. Thats why Im keeping my Universe Darkwind forever

Loving the Titanmasters and the pilot/driver interaction and how it kept a lot of figures in scale.

Trailer armour and Pretender Shells always caught my interest.

A nice big spaceship like Skystalker's shuttle or Titans Return Trypticon that can fit a few Transformers inside and enclose the figures not like the Actionmaster vehicles with their open cockpits.

5mm weapons. makes shit compatible with each other and the holes don't interfere with the engineering of the toy, unlike... basically every other gimmick.

I did really like the C-clips system from DotM, but I'm going to go with light piping.
In the right light, some figures really come to life with it.

I'm going to exclude Transforming and 5mm hand/weapon system as they're not really features. Light Piping I consider a feature, not a gimmick, besides it's never been a line wide or focus feature.

    1. Titan Masters. I really enjoy the gimmick and the concept. There are a few figures that I really like just as they came, but I also liked doing head swaps to make "new" or different characters.

    2. Energon Weapons. Yeah, it sounds weird, but I liked that you could build and swap weapons between all the figures. With all the pegs and holes, you could build bigger weapons, or even re-arm and redistribute the weapons as you saw fit, they even had the minicon ports to go over minicon hardpoints, so you could turn those hardpoints into further weapon points.

Titan Masters. These little dudes can form heads, ride around in the alt modes of the larger toys and can man the base modes of the leaders. I love em.

And of course combining! One giant transforming robot is awesome. A group of them forming an even bigger robot is even more awesome.

Do Fuzors count? Because Fuzors are friggin awesome. If not I'd probably go with a really good triple-changer, head/titan-masters, or Animated Blitzwing's face.

Real boring answer: weapon storage in alt mode. So ubiquitous now it doesn't feel like a gimmick, but it wasn't always the case.

Light piping was the greatest thing to exist in Transformers history. I miss it so much. Titanmasters are wicked awesome. I would love more of these guys as well as Targetmasters. The last one being...
Sadly, some toys don't have this feature.(Looking at you Wave 5) :(

I loved spring-loaded weapons. My G2 Dreadwing has the rotary "Gatling" spring-loaded missile launcher and that thing is awesome. It really added to the play value of the toy.
