With the new TV season on the way with a new TF series among them, I was wondering what your favorite TF Series opener is and why?

My favorite is probably The Reformatting which really sets up the characters, settings, and many other factors that will be of the final part of the "G1 trilogy"

Second is Transform and Roll Out from Animated. Third is G1's More than Meets The Eye.

I like Beast Wars opening, each season something changes from it. Plus the song they used was cool too.

    japanese animated wins!

OH, you mean the first episode of each series:then i vote animated anyways, honorable mention goes to masterforce, victory, and zone

My favourite was the series opener for the G1 season 4-Rebirth! The theme song was still the same as the one from season three, but the intro had scenes from season three as well as scenes from past Transformers commercials. The theme song used for G1 seasons 3 and 4 were and are still my favourite TF themes ever! It was and still is awesome!

It would be between Animated and Beast Wars for me...

Gonna say Beast wars even though the first few episodes aren't as great as the rest of the series. It had plenty of action and gave actual explanations for taking on alternate modes. A lot of the characters personalities were well established in it as well.

I voted for beastwars because it had a really strong first episode. that did a great job of setting up for the whole first season.

I'd have to go with Beast Machines, for all its "holy crap what the hell happened to make things come out like this?" feel, with G1 a close second.

    Beast Machines! Great mysterious opener.

The begining of BW I actually feel is the weakest part of the entire series.

MTMTE is physically painful to watch for me anymore. It's just awful.

Not a fan of the other series so even though I have seen the pilot episodes I didn't even take them into consideration.

Having to choose between G1, BW and TFA (haven't seen the rest except for the Cybertron one, and that one I can barely remember), I have to go with Animated. BW gets a close second (losing out due to some clunky dialogue and overuse of the maximize and terrorize stuff), while G1 is a distant third (it feels really stiff to me in terms of flow and action).

I've got to go with the original. It set up a massive cast and established the basic story in a way that has endured and still stands up now against 25 years worth of new cartoons. Not knocking any of the others, but More than Meets the Eye managed to pack a phenomenal amount of material into its three episodes.

I voted for Armada, with all those mis-colored G1 Autobots running around it had fans chatting about it for weeks. Those were good fun times indeed! (By Season Opener I took that as the first episode).

That's another reason why I like that opener.

I hope TF: Prime has something like this in it's pilot.

That's what I'm not asking for.

I rank the pilot episodes like this

    1. The Reformatting

    2. Transform and Roll Out

    3. More than Meets The Eye

    4. Beast Wars' pilot

    5. Fallen

    6. Armada's three part opener

    7. Battle Protocol

    8. Cybertron City (I dozed off five minutes in)

TF&RO or Reformatting, I flipped a coin and picked TF&RO. Beast Wars was a great TV series, fantastic even, but the opening two-parter was at times painful with intro dumps, activation codes and 90's filler dialogue and it just wasn't on it's feet yet. Though it did effectively set up the setting, dilema and overall plot. MTMTE was, well, I don't know if anyone's watched it recently, but it's incredibly hollow and unengaging. No suspense, no build up, the music was boring and the animation slow and unimpressive. It introduces a lot of stuff, too much really, but seldom, if at all, gives us a reason to care. Characters are little more than names and titles, or at best archtypes.

On the flip side TF&RO started great, immediately giving us the cast with a littel fanwank-y exposition. Each character was introduced in a way that didn't make me roll my eyes, and an engaging and interesting plot took off almost instantly. It also had an actual climax that wasn't just a bunch of guys fighting very unimpressively, but the whole Autobot team working as a group to take down the powerhouse Starscream. It felt like MTMTE only good, giving real suspense, fleshing out the characters and their history instead of just telling it to us.

The Reformatting was also great, starting out with action right away, very dark, very stylised. The first half is a mad dash, and quickly sets up that our heroes are thoroughly screwed and they can't simply fight their way out like on Earth. The scene where the Maximals actually get reformatted is chilling to say the least, it's done so well. It smoothly but quickly establishes the dilema, the setting and reintroduces the characters without being insufferable. The end where primal finally transforms has a great sense of triumph and achievement to it, though the end where it's realised that transforming is no longer automatic is a perfect lead-in to the episodes to follow. Hell, the actual villain isn't revealed until the very end scene, in shadow and he still doesn't reveal himself to the protagonists until the next epsiode.
