Predaking is my favorite with Bruticus coming in a close second.

Predaking is huge, powerful and has an awesome design.

Devastator just beats out Bruticus, Superion, Predaking, Menasor, and Defensor, only because it's the first combiner we ever see.

My favorite is JRX (Rail Racer) from Transformers 2000 (RID). He would be WAY bigger than any G1 combiner (trains are pretty huge IRL) and he had rocket pack.

I remember seeing the whole RID Autobot gang chillin in one scene and even one of the Trainbots was nearly the size of Devestator.

Plus the toy is really awesome. I got JRX on my Xbox 360 right now. He's in my Top Ten most favorite TF's of all time.

Devastator has the best name, combination form (6 figures not 5), gimmick (construction vehicles), and colors (green and purple look bad a$$)

I never liked how you can interchange arms/legs on most of the other combiners. Even within each other.
With Devastator, each figure had it's designated spot (arm/leg/torso). The way it should be.

Devastator was the first and best combiner of all time. (Predaking is a distant 2nd)

It used to be Devastator, but now it's Bruticus. Menasor is a close second.

"Bruticus angry. Bruticus devastate Devastator!" - Best line evar.

Definitely Bruticus for me. Military vehicles + Starscream as their creator, and the Combaticons have Swindle, the coolest conman the 'Cons have ever known. Bruticus whooped Devastator's butt in a fair fight (and with just two punches), took over all of Cybertron after making Shockwave his b*tch, and very nearly destroyed the earth with all the 'Bots and 'Cons there planet-side in one fell swoop.

Devastator is OK but a bit overrated. I didn't much care for the other combiner teams, though Superion and the Aerialbots come close to being decent (if it wasn't for Superion's lame ass high pitched voice on the G1 show). Defensor and the Protectobots being the rivals for Bruticus and the Combaticons is cool but I don't really find them all that great otherwise.

Going by cartoon and sheer aesthetics I say Superion for me. It's freaking jets!

On decepticon side I like the terrorcons. Remind me of old japanese monster movies like Godzilla.

Weren't they only the engine cars though? Those aren't really that much longer than some of the other vehicle-modes the other combiners have. In fact, I'm pretty sure some of the other members in the combiners would be a fair be larger than the JRX guys. Silverbolt for one, and I'm pretty sure a space shuttle is pretty damned long. Meanwhile, high-speed trains are somewhat long, but they are very thin and somewhat low. At least, the one I was on last weekend wasn't that big.

For me, for some reason I've always like Superion, but I really don't know why. He doesn't really look all that great, and he's not that skilled a fighter. Maybe it's just because I've always loved planes.

Predaking. He has a great design, a great name, and he seems to be one of the more intelligent combiners.

i voted Computron. he was the only G1 combiner i ever completed as a kid. others i came close to but always 1 part would be missing. but i liked computron. his colors and composition of vehicles was awesome. plus his victories came from precise computations. and you know ... Grimlock made him!

although i am quite a fan of the train teams, Raiden and Railracer.

Fiction-wise- I always thought the Predacons were boss. Nothing is better in Call of the Primatives than when they decide to fight (and die) as one against the energy creature. Constructicons,as well, of course.

Toy wise? I dunno. I almost want to say Abominus as Hun-Grr's legs gave him a wide range of motion the others lacked.

    This is tough! :)
