I know this is the kind of topic that comes around every so often, but I checked a couple months ago and couldn't find a thread for it. So, boss fights being as much a part of gaming as controllers, what's your favorite?

Right now mine's the duel against Pixy, your former wingman, in Ace Combat Zero. It's not really the difficulty I enjoy - he's pretty easy if you joust him a lot, and in the last phase you're forced to do just that. It's not the originality either, as he's a standard three-form boss, wherein you "beat" him, he drops off the radar and comes back with a new tactic. It's the atmosphere and the music. I always find fighting him is a big adrenalin rush.

The 4-part final battle of Final Fantasy 6 is pretty sweet I think, even if the very final form of Kefka isn't too difficult. Just the way they did it was really cool I thought.

I'd also say Granfalloon from Casltevania Symphony of the Night, the one that's just a mass of writhing human bodies.

Almost anything from Mischief Makers. They could have made a whole game just from the boss fights.

    Mother Brain in Super Metroid.

The suprise ending is still one of the most memorable in video game history.

The Dragon in Mega Man II gets props from me to. EPIC.

I always thought that Tidal Wave from the Armada PS2 game was one fo the best boss fights ever.

My favorite though is the combo boss fight against Krauser in RE4. Not too difficult, but I've never seen a boss fight that engaging and story-driven before.

it may merit a flogging, but I've always enjoyed the 1 hr+ final boss battles of the ps1 final fantasies. I remember back in the day, though, that revenge of shinobi and ghouls n' ghosts had great boss battles.

I had considered saying Mother Brain and the final four from SF2 as well. Love that stuff.

Interesting how most of my favorites are all from 2-d games. I wish 2D was still more widely accepted outside of Japan

Any boss fight against Legion in the Castlevania series always ranks near the top of my list. Number 1 spot would have to go to Atma/Ultima Weapon in FF6.

Sephiroth in FF7. My most iconic battle/boss of all time.

He wasn't too shabby in Kingdom Hearts, either.

That was awsome but I like the fight of Metal Gear from the first one on the Playstation. GrayFox sacrificing himself was cool.

The giant teapots in Jumping Flash. Not that hard, but hysterical fun, and easily the most batshit boss I've ever seen.
