Saber's name is Arturia. Her history is exactly the same as the King Arthur legend, except her gender was hidden since King Uther knew the people wouldn't accept a woman as a ruler.

As for Archer, they explain who he is in the video game, but you can put together pieces of who he really is in the anime. He's not a historical/legendary figure, but the biggest clue is he can Trace weapons.

    Spoiler: He's Emiya Shiro.

It's usually a good idea to finish a series before you ask for spoilers.

Fate/Stay Night was PC hentai game first and foremost before it got adapted into an anime.

As for Saber, all will be explained as you watch the series further. But if you're impatient, Wikipedia has a pretty extensive write-up on FSN.

...strange, Nerroth usually would've popped in by now.

Not exactly a hentai game. There is naughty scenes, but they were removed from the Ps2 version.

It's usually classified as "eroge", which is a step lighter than a hentai game.

And essentially, the only reason that portion of the game exists is because that's the only way it would have sold in Japan.

First and foremost, it's a visual novel.

Capcom's supposed to have a 2D fighting game for the franchise coming out this year on the PS2(?) in Japan. There was also Fate/Tiger Colosseum on the DS last year, which was a fighting game in chibi style.

I know there's some weird anime titles out there but this always makes me think of womens sanitary pad for some reason.

    I don't get it.

And I'm also not so sure what you're considering to be so weird about F/SN, either? Heroes of legend and mythology get together for one big ultimate throwdown? Sure, there's plenty of freaky plot twists throughout the story, but conceptually, anime usually gets a whole lot weirder.
