Barry Bond's 756th home run ball was purchased by designer Mark Ecko. He now has a website where anyone can vote on what he should do with the ball. The options are: Donate it as is to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. Brand it with an asterisk and donate it to the Hall of Fame Put it on a rocket and blast it into space. Vote here: http://www.vote756.com/marcecko/ I voted for the asterisk. BTW - I was going to put this in the baseball thread, but thought it deserved a thread of it's own.
Meh. I vote to just donate to the Hall of Fame as is. Like it or not, Barry Bonds is an important part of baseball history and defacing the ball just because he's a jerk seems juvenile.
aaaaand the results are in. The ball is getting branded with 47% of the vote for that decision. 34% voted to send it to Cooperstown untarnished, 19% voted to launch it into space.
Awesome. The ball itself is meaningless - it's not like the Mona Lisa. Physically it's the same as any other baseball. What matters is what it symbolizes, and I think adding a second symbol to it, one that further signifies all that went on around it, perfectly appropriate.
He needs to brand it enough times where the HoF can't display it w/o having the brand visible. You know if he only does it once they will just put it to the back. I think 6 brands should be sufficent
Good point, even though everyone will know that it was branded, if it can't be seen it wouldn't have the same effect.
