Released in July 2010 over in Japan, with Aksys set to distribute it in North America, Fate/Extra is a new story set in the Type-Moon multiverse.

It's set in a different timeline from any shown in other Fate series; shifting the date to 2032, and the location to somewhere... different.

    Look interesting?

Saber Extra has a different seiyuu to the other Saber, too - Sakura Tange, instead of Ayako Kawasumi.

From my understanding, this Saber isn't the same person. Rather than being Arturia Pendragon, she's Joan of Arc.

The original Saber's resemblance to Joan of Arc was noted in Fate/Zero, where the Caster from the 4th war, an associate of Joan of Arc, was convinced Saber WAS Joan of Arc, even going so far as insisting her memories as King Arthur must be false (Nevermind that Excalibur was pretty definitive proof. He was kinda nuts).

This leaves an interesting question though... is there more of a connection between Arturia Pendragon and Joan of Arc than just physical resemblance?

No-one's able to confirm whether she really is Jeanne D'arc, a gender-flipped Mordred, or someone else entirely - at least not yet.

(I suspect they won't say anything, and word won't get out until the first people to play through the game uncover the truth while playing it.)

There are two flash games up.

The first one, with Caster Extra, is at this link; there's a Saber Extra game up, too.

Try not to play either at work.

(The Saber Extra one in particular seems to offer clues as to who she is, or at least where she comes from.)

Promo art makes it pretty clear that she's Mordred.

Meaning she's ... her... own son... sort of?

    It's still a possibility, but I wouldn't call it a dead cert.

Not least with the Roman theme that flash game offers; as opposed to the sub-Roman style one might expect from Mordred's era. (Aquae Sulis didn't stay in the best of shape once the legions pulled out.)

I suppose there'll be plenty more guessing to do between now and next Thursday, about both her and the new Caster.

...nyehhh... This is one spin-off too many for me, perhaps...

I mean, I want to follow this and figure out just what the heck is going on, but I simply don't think I have the energy to...

Today's the release date for the Japanese version.

Some of the in-game info is already starting to do the rounds... I'm trying not to get too spoiled, though.

Now, to hope someone will be so kind as to release a Western version, which I might have more of a chance of actually playing well...

(I'm a sucker for Figma, it seems.)

Yeah, I didn't want to bet on the LE being an option if the game ever gets a Western licence.

So, I'm at the start of week 3. (I selected the male protag, and summoned Archer.)

During the course of each week, you alternate between time spent in the school grounds and down in the cyber-dungeons; at the end of each week, you square off with the Master-Servant pair you were drawn to fight.

Things don't always go so cleanly, however...

I got this one, but admittedly only for the Figma. I got Fate/Unlimited Codes for the special edition Figma as well. Its probably one of the worst buys I've ever got, since I don't even have a PSP to play the game with, haha.

It was the opposite for me; I got the Saber Lily LE despite not having a PS2, then downloaded the PSP version of Fate/Unlimited Codes when it was released on the Canadian online store...

I just finished the first run-through!

Tons of plot-related stuff I'd really need an English-text version to follow, but still pretty neat.

Oh, and it's probably not much of a spoiler to say this (I hope); but if/when you finish it, stay for the end of the credits!

Got this set yesterday with probably no chance of ever playing the game :lol . The extras are very nice.

Cool. Did you get the Fate/ the Fact magazine, too?

(You're always welcome to join the PSP crowd...)

Oh, and I posted a couple of Figma Saber Extra pics in the other thread; I only managed to get the camera working again recently.
