See that's the thing, MPs are suppose to have toon bot looks but real world alt mode. You can't make your Aerialbots and Stunticons real world vehicles and then toon up the minibot's alt modes.

It would be cool if FT includes an additional weapon, the long machine gun like Arkose.

Well, that's where the water gets muddy, isn't it? Masterpiece being now, "Animasterpiece" things are not what they used to be. I think that an accepted compromise for those of us missing the MP10 era was to have animation bots and real world alts where applicable.

Buuut the line, she is a'changing [though not for the better] and now it's toon or die.

The caveat here being that FT has done a pretty good job of capturing the likeness of the G1 toy's alt mode.

It was just a really simplified design to start with.

Every damn company out there needs to get away from rubber tires though. They do nothing to add to the figure in any way.

    Ooooh... ooooh... me next.
    “Die-cast heft”
Damn. You beat me to it.

    :p

Theres a huge difference between natural rubber and the vast array of silicone based flexible materials available to modern manufacturing. Natural rubber decays and rots. Some forms of soft silicone can crack. Many, many others are incredibly durable. And if you’re at all worried about it:
    63A4F525-E4D0-4926-9B57-C71A6CD7DA4B.jpeg
    This stuff is the bomb.
No, NO a thousand times NO!!!

The haters ruined articulated hands for us, they’re trying to kill off light up LED eyes... you are not gonna take away my GODDAM RUBBER TYRES!!!!
Can’t folks leave just one of the bloody high-grade elements of Masterpiece figures alone without nitpicking it into oblivion? I don’t want $100 Hasbro shelf-hangers, I want a premium toy with a premium look, premium articulation and a premium feel to go with the premium price.

... sorry. I think you touched a nerve there.

XTB vs FT Beachcomber Comparison 2018.jpg

    This look good so far.

The Pros: Clean look, no backpack. Fairly, cartoon accurate. If you dislike Cartoon accurate, there is always XTBs offering which looks great in both modes, minus the huge back pack.
Transformation most likely be smoother or at least more solid. XTB Arkose is great, but I had several small parts on my copy that were way to tight, and always felt like they could break. Even some stress marks new out of package.

Cons: Proportions are a bit off. He is a bit to stocky and brickish, especially in vehicle mode. The front end should be tapered more. The chest seems to wide and no neck. He is built like a linebacker. He would most likely greet you with, "hey bro," (pictured left) instead of "what up man?" (pictured right) The face sculpt seems a bit off as well.
More peace less less PC Bro.jpg

I don't have photoshop, so I can't do any fancy edition but marked some changes in the thumbnail below.

I narrowed the shoulders a bit. Tapered the legs, which will taper the front of the car in vehicle mode, so its less of a brick with wheels. I made the mouth smaller by 15% and shaped the jawline, and goggles. I included a reference pic of the Hasbro toy which actually does have a really good face sculpt.

I think you’ve got the character model really well though.

It's pretty close, certainly the best ever representation of the character model, which is what I'm after. For me, capturing the G1 appearance is what Masterpiece is all about; I don't want an alt mode that looks nothing like the toy or toon because I'm collecting Transformers not a bunch of model vehicles. So thanks FT for carrying the G1 torch and doing things right, I've waited a long time for this kind of thing!

The good news is, if realism is what some folks want there are those options out there.

I don't think this guy is perfect, but he has better proportions than Arkose. Judging from the character model, Beachcomber seems a bit stocky. Arkose is too slender.

I thought his shoulders were too high so I lowered them a little bit.

Premium is subjective. Lasting is not. Heft, excess paint finish, rubber, LEDs... these are all things people think they need because they think they are the same as quality.

Heft does not mean better. Heft placed wrong throws a figure off balance and metal requires paint.
Paint chips. And requires matching to the rest of the figure.
Rubber tires develop flat spots if they sit too long and split despite what anecdotal evidence says. They also deform if not properly installed to the figure and add parts to the assembly which drives up costs.
And LEDs require batteries which decay and wires which hinder design and articulation.

And all of these drive up cost that are not absorbed by the manufacturing company in some sort of charitable goodness.

Binaltech was great but Binaltech wasn't perfect. And it is gone and need not come back as it was if ever again.

Looks like they're not gonna be able to hide the white hood on the legs if they go the with the correct alt mode paint job. Don't see any hinges that would flip the white hood parts.

I'm not sure If anybody mentioned before but If you put an autobot symbol on hood,in robot mode,it will appear on the legs.

I never liked Arkose much. In fact, I'm not sure if it came broken, was broken, or is broken (with the cage nonsense).

But I'm not sure I'm going to trade down for this....Again, the proportions and shapes are 'roided up (what is it with FT and turning mini-bots into hunks?), and the alt-mode looks as silly as the original toy, if not more so. It'll look even more stupid, now that it's scaled up and done with superior materials.
