I look at it differently. I applaud FT for listening to the fans and making this optional accessory available to enhance what is already an excellent figure.

...and you probably won't do your research now, but for other people that might be coming in for the first time, there is a very valid reason why FansToys HAD to do this. Hint: it's in the thread.

And guess what? You don't HAVE to buy a more cartoon-ish head! It's for those who like the more simplified, toonified look.

Personally the head finds me indifferent (IF I ever get a Grinder). Point is I cant see all those panel lines in the toon, so....

 

FT has stated that there were forced to make drastic changes to Grinder's design (curved dino feet claws, rounder/bigger head etc) because retailers said the initial design looked too much like the official MP08 Grimlock to the point to where it looked like an identical clone. Maybe retailers are just now starting to relax that policy but it wasn't the case at Grinder's inception for some reason. The cartoon/mp08 style head as a separate piece months later was backdoor workaround that FT decided to employ.

 

I see it this way as well. They offered one product. Customers asked them to make a variation in the design of that product. They did, and made it available as a separate purchase should you want it.

To me that's listening to the customer. Do we really think they are going to make a killing on Grinder heads? I suspect the number of people who buy one will be a niche inside a niche.

 

My 9 yr old son and I are at loggerheads no pun intended lol about installing the toon head. I want me Grimlock. He wants it to stay fierce. Ahhh parenthood.

 

I noticed that Ebay seller has xinzhong.zhiyouni now has Grinder for $145 USD shipped!

Funny you say. My son also wants the Fanstoys Grinder to come with the bow tie and apron getup. Go figure.

 

I was checking my pre-orders at TCP today and I saw something for $215, couldn't remember what that was... Blue Grinder... I forgot about space dino
