FansProject TFX-BT-01 Alternators/Binal Tech Optimus Prime Upgrade Set

Got mine in the mail from TFSource last week. Surprised no one has done a review yet but certainly understandable with the price of it being rather high.

    Packaging:

    Gas Can-non:

    Transforming the Gas Can-non:

    Nemesis Prime with Gas Can-non:

Optimus Prime with engine block extension and Matrix:

While this set is quite an awesome addition to the ALT/BT Optimus Prime mold, it isn't exactly price friendly. Personally I would've been more happy about the set if it were priced at, say, $20 instead.

I forgot to mention that the engine block extension in robot mode pushes the hood of the truck out a bit which is also a bit of a downer.

Overall, another solid set by the guys at FansProject. Hopefully they'll continues to push out more awesome custom work!

Very imaginative and a nice try on their part, but... what is that bit dangling off of the back of the jerrycan supposed to be? And since when did Optimus start keeping the Matrix in his belly?

"Every time I light our darkest hour, it goes RIGHT to my love handles"

Like I said, very imaginative, but...ultimately not worth it to me for the price they're asking. Nice pictures, though; thanks for the review!

You mean the part of the can that's not part of the piece with the big black x? I think it was meant to represent one of those bigger cans but the back part couldn't be designed to be flush with the rest of the can.

And yeah, the Matrix in the stomach thing is another downer I forgot to mention. I think the engine block extension and Matrix didn't need to be a part of this set as the gun is quite an awesome piece in itself. But since it is OP I guess they felt that the Matrix is a must have for the mold.

I love it, I have all the characters of this mould....however I cannot justify so little for so much.

    Damn, no comic either?

Matrix placement surprises me, for some reason the prototype pictures gave me the impression that it went into the chest. And if it causes even more gappage in the vehicle mode that's a downer.

Really liking the origami on the gas tank gun though. Keeps me interested- I may pick this up if I ever have the spare toy cash and have nothing else lined up.

There's no extra gappage in vehicle mode. In fact the thing does a damned good job filling the huge gaping hole under the engine/gun in vehicle mode.

It's in the robot mode that it pushes the hood out a little further, giving Prime a beer belly of sorts.

Hmmm. Loving the cannon, and I'm glad I pre-ordered this thing but the Matrix belly button is a little bit odd. I quite like the size of the Matrix, it looks quite discreet in Prime's hand.

Next upgrade from FansProject: a new head with the face mask removed revealing Prime's bling bling gold teeth.

Great review! Nice to see this underated/overlooked set get some love. I've got my alt prime rocking this set along with the HIGHLY RECOMMENDED reprolabels stickers and it's now one of my favorite versions of Prime.

I'm not into reprolabels, but I'm definitely glad that you dig the set too. It adds quite a bit to the figure for being such a small set.
