Review of Fansproject Causality CA-05 Backfiery

That out of the way, I think we can now complete the most important ensemble of G1:

Packaging:

As the other FP insects. There’s no extra pack-ins and the bio is readily available.

Robot Mode


As we know from official photos, the knives clip-on to pegs on Backfiery's legs and hips.

Character Model Questions:

This is G1 Kickback, modified to fit FP’s aesthetic, perhaps with a touch of Dreamwave character modeling.

Just the right balance of purple and black. Everything matches the previous two figures in this series.

The yellow is molded on the chest.

The FP faction logos are on the shoulders:

Articulation:

No waist joint.

The hands are on ball joints. Unlike my copies of Stormbomb and Thundershred, these hands hold the standard plug weapons.

The head looks good, as do the wings.

Accessories:

Six blades for you to ninja-up your Backfiery. It’s up to you if you think this is awesome or not. I’m lukewarm.

Insect Mode

Transformation: oh man is this sweet. This is well done.

Some of the steps-to me-seemed as if he’s going to snap but it’s all good.

The legs might give you trouble if you don’t fold them into their final position.

The hands are visible as is the back of the head.

But oh, man, what a bug!

Wings:

These are sweet wings and contrast well with the rest of the figure.

Articulation:

Sadly, your bug won’t hop. The legs are locked in to the main part of the bug. My entomology is sadly outdated so I think this is referred to as the abdomen.

In Sum:

(My Kup and Hot Rod are in storage, so OP will have to do.)

I expected the least out of him as the third. But he’s the best.

I’m most attached to the Bombshell character so he wins out but I’m interested to hear your views of this figure!

Did you rub off the emblem? Or does he not come with one? Also..is the yellow chest painted (like Stormbomb) yellow or molded yellow (Like Thundershred)?

 

The faction symbols are on the shoulders. I forgot to put that picture in.

The chest is molded yellow.

Are the shoulders molded in black, or painted?

 

I'm fairly certain the only paint on the figure is:

Bug eyes on the bug head
Face/head
Silver on the wrists
Silver on the sides of the chests

Everything else, it seems to me, is molded.

 

do the blades store in bug mode?

 

Great feedback...love the opening picture....read that strip when Straxus was announced, getting info on him...great setup....cant wait to get mines...boy FP sure make you forget you dropped 150$ on these guys,

Best bug mode of three. Overall, looks to be my favorite.

 

Oh god I want this. No waist articulation is a bummer but I can live with it. Mine is arriving next week. I can't wait.

 

So this one has wrist articulation, but no waist articulation?

FUUUU. By far my favorite out of the three though. Both modes look better than the other two. It would be neat if you could take off his wings and turn them into swords or something so his choice of weapons would match up better to the others, but whatever.

 

Uggh. I wasn't impressed by how this guy looked in the promo pics, but QP's photos are changing my mind. I'd need to find him a katana or something though.

The Fansproject shots that most retailers show seem to indicate that they store along his legs (almost like the hairs on a grasshopper's legs), but it appears QP may not prefer his figure that way.

 

Waist is by far the most useless point of articulation, so I'm never concerned over its loss.

I'd take more frivolous points of articulation like ab-crunch, or shoulder shrugging/rolling any time over waist.


Kinda bothers me that he has a clearly defined insect head, though, while the other two... don't.

 

A bit how I feel too. The weapons are perfect however. You're covering pretty much the majority of the ninja weapons with these guys. Plus you could always rationalize that the kunai explode shortly after impact or what not. Or coated in some kind of robot ninja poison.
