Thank you for the video review! Now watching it.

Once I saw you peg his sword into the stand, I thought to myself, FT should have really molded the base to be able to hold all 5 swords (and maybe also guns) of the five dinobots. Also, I hope the upcoming Dinobots will get pegs so that we can mount them on the stand too.

The non locking arms and legs in alt mode is just lazy of FT. I mean this thing has the simplest transformation, so the least they can do is make sure that the simple things are done right.

What's the wing span on this bad boy? Definitely doesn't look like he'll fit in a detolf with the wings spread fully. Might be time for me to get that double detolf mod going. Thanks for a great review! Your vid really let us know what to look forward to.

Thanks for the review, Optibotimus ! That was an excellent review as always. Soar looks incredible, extremely impressed with how he looks in both modes. Hopefully we'll have him in hand soon !

Ok, so holy hell do I want Soar like right the hell right now. He looks like the walked right off the screen, so much so that I'm sitting here watching the video and I can here the screechy cartoon voice as he's sitting there.

I am seriously impressed with the detail on this figure and the engineering that went into it.

    Wow.

Yeah. Between that and the squeaky shoulders and the problem-prone thigh clips, this is not the return to Quakewave-like perfection that I was hoping for ...and expecting it to be.

The prospect of such substantial die-cast balanced above comparatively tiny ankle joints doesn't inspire confidence either.

I'd much rather they delay release a few months and sort that stuff out than release him this way.

Soar looks fantastic. But I want a FansToys Swoop that's fun and solid; great hand-candy. If all I wanted was something that looks good I could print out a cardboard cut-out version and save some dough.

In case you missed it, this was a test sample. Parts are still going through the final paces and this isn't being released yet. This was just an advanced look at a colored test sample. Based on the way it worked last time with Scoria, it'll still be a couple more months before the final is ready to send out. Tolerances will be adjusted and such. Don't take what you see at face value because of the changes that will in veritably happen

Hm, I think based on Scoria, it's a 50 50 chance that this is the final sample or close to one. The loose hips and shoulders were certainly common enough.

Looks like Soar (Not-Swoop) will be coming in Dec 2014/Jan 2015 timeframe. That's fine with me, more time to save up some $$$ to get both version.

The legs do lock in alt mode, I made a short and terrible video of it here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlsSmq-zm-4

What is hard the first time is to force the knees up into the leg so that it can sit far more flush against the dino back, then the clip-in is far more secure as you can see.

The test shot I received did not have any of these issues. The leg clips pop out with ease every time and are undamaged, the shoulders do not squeak and when you engage the heel spurs on the dino feet it adds much stability, I then tightened the screws in the robot heels and he stands perfectly every time without need for adjustment. Just plonk on a table and he stands. Here's another video to demonstrate some of the above.

    All the best

Thanks much for that, Maz. That's very reassuring.

I still wonder about the leg clips though. Do they serve any structural purpose when they are locked in? If not, they could be cut along that seam they bridge and glued down on each side to avoid any chance of breakage. As they are now, they look like the kind of thing that would be easy to ham-hand while paying attention to some other part of the leg transformation.

I think the clips are as much harking back to the original design of the Diaclone Pteranodon as much as any essential functionality.

Yeah, clearly. But if you left them untabbed in bot mode, would the legs be any less solid than they are with them tabbed in?

I suspect the tabs don't actually bear any load, so giving them a seam which matches the one on the silver-grey part of the thigh would make it so they never have to be untabbed without changing anything else. Like so:

    (apologies for borrowing your image)

And people complain about Hasbro's chrome.
Beak should have been gold paint to much the silver wing paint.
