Just to be sure it was mentioned, the re-release also included two distinct versions. There was the straight re-release which was a darker shade of purple than the original release, and there was also a toy version which is quite a bit darker purple compared to both the original release and the regular reissue.

I think I’ll be selling my grey Quakewave soon.
I thought to mention it here before getting to eBay.

The gray looks so much better to me. Not sure why Cloud9 went with black. It doesn't homage anything at all. They missed an opportunity in my opinion- Quakeblast looks great despite my still loving Quakewave and the gray would've been sweet on that figure. That's why I made my own. Started out with a purple Quakeblast and then when the black version released I swapped the smoked translucent parts as well and upgrade his LED's to red. I know this is the Quakewave thread but we should all know by now that Quakeblast is his close cousin, lol: IMG_20180602_113510277.jpg IMG_20180602_113328452.jpg IMG_20180602_113307801.jpg

Yeah, but I WAS responding to his post that had Quakewave AND Quakeblast in it at least. And they were the "Shackwave" homages, so I went with it. ;)

Actually, among the many version of this mould in the 80's, there was a very dark, almost black version. I actually owned two back then: one with die cast parts (that one broke) and a second with plastic feet/legs. I still have the latter and Quakeblast is pretty close in colour to it. Big difference is the 80's one has clear red parts and not smokey so it isn't a perfect hommage.

oh, great looking custom btw :thumb

While there may be a darker but not black version about (black Quakeblast has some metallic flake in the finish that helps give it a somewhat gray effect I think) the Radio Shack Galactic Man is the most well known non Transformers version it seems. I'd bet a majority of collector's wanted that truly gray "Shackwave" homage, at least in the US. I like black Quakeblast but he just doesn't represent any childhood memories for me.

Not disputing that the gray version would possibly be more popular. I myself have no nostalgia for the gray version but would still prefer it. (Then again, Fanstoys doubted a gray would sell enough so it was only a store exclusive, while C9 made the black deco for general release -- apparently, black redeco's are popular in Japan and China.)

I only posted my comment because you stated that C9 made mistake in releasing a black version because it didn't hommage anything. It does definitely hommage a version of the non-TF version of the original mould. And maybe that deco (I honestly don't know) was more familiar to the Asian market and/or they banked on black redeco's being more popular. But it was based on an existing version.

Pulled the trigger on MP-29+. Still, I'm keeping Quakewave, and I'll display him in gun mode. Have to get that stand! Here's a comparison of both in the iconic pose.
