I started futzing around in 3DS Max, originally intending to make a variant on War Within Soundwave (as he appeared in the concept sketches). However, as I went along, I ended up designing something more than a bit different (though with a VAGUELY similar transform scheme). The original intent was to simply make a unique character but the end result puts me in mind of War Within Warpath, or something similar. And, yes, in tank mode the turret can spin freely. Tank mode: And Bot mode: I am mapping it over the next couple of days, then rigging and texturing it. Should be done by the end of the weekend.
Oh, that's only about 1/3 done. The modelling is only a tiny fraction of things. Btw, might make an optional cannon that fits on his chest or a "Warpath" version.
Yep, the colors will certainly change. Those are just 'greys' to show the model itself, with a few 'touchup' colors. The original character version will be shades of brown and tan on the tank parts with greys for the non-visible parts, while the Warpath version would be, of course, crimson.

Why make a "cannon" at all? He's got advanced technology, maybe those twin apertures on his chest fire insanely powerfull (albeit narrow and rectangular) energy beams? Other thoughts; Lose the missile rack, looks too 'tacked on' / afterthought. maybe have the arms fill up the gap between the rear wheels in vehicle mode? You can put some elements there that will carry over in both modes. (or you could just tell me to hose off, you're the one doing all the work )
