I played for a few hours, didn't get too far but I do love how similar it is and it's as addicting as ever. I have been experiencing a slight hiccup whenever I would change directions, and I also have a problem where if I'm walking on rough terrain, my arm and gun pop up and cover half the screen. Nothing game breaking, though. Still something I'm sure I will invest ridiculous amounts of time into.
Level 10 now, about eight hours in, normal difficulty on hardcore mode, no fast travel. Just got into New Vegas proper, on the strip. Had several lucky wins playing Blackjack and made 1500 extra caps.
I think there is 12 total or so. So far have seen Star Wars nod Indiana jones nod Princess bride nod heard about the granny gang from a random drifter random objects in the middle of nowhere
If you liked Fallout 3, you'll like this game too. I definitely like some of the small changes, like the factions and the return of traits. (Without spoilers, the changes to the companions are very cool.) Anyone have any favorite traits on their first play-through? I picked Kamikaze and Four Eyes and found them incredibly helpful early on. Wasteland is something I am missing, but I will add that next time when I go evil. It's as unfortunately repetitive as Fallout 3, but the music seems pretty perfect for the setting. What better D.J. to represent Las Vegas than Wayne Newton?
The granny gang? Oh Lord, that's awesome. Maybe they've got a polygonal version of John Cleese, complete with pepperpot costume and leather jacket, running around sacking people.
Tomorrow can't come quick enough, so I can pick my copy up from the store. Sounding promising from the few bits I've read here.
I got it on PC and its already crashed once not a big deal but annoying. the thing i am most upset about with this game are the graphics. The environments and character models did not come very far from the first one if they have improved at all. That said the game play is alot better and combat can be played more like a shooter now thanks to the changes as opposed to relying more on vats. I also love the dynamic system for reputation and the warring factions.
Actually, Fallout 3 played just fine without VATS. My first two playthroughs were done with a high amount of VATS use because it is what I felt I needed from a Fallout game. My third character, I decided to avoid using VATS as much as possible and found myself being much more accurate and just as effective.
Now that they're done with this one, I'd sure like to see Bethesda put Fallout on ice and turn their attention back to their other big franchise: Elder Scrolls. It's been too damn long since Oblivion. Bring on Elder Scrolls V!
Played about 2 hours last night. Definitely like the game so far. (Rented it) May have to turn it into a purchase down the line.
I guess my experience was different but i played it on pc and the combat without vats always felt clunky to me and i play first person shooters exclusively on pc.
Installing the game to my HD to try and stop the freezing.(360) It's starting to really bug me having to save every few minutes or lose progress.
Same thing here, even with it installed, Loving the game, not loving it freeze up about once an hour. Luckily i'm obsessive with saves on these games.
Loving this game, the first couple of hours I felt 'overwhelmed' like I did the first time I played Fallout 3. There's just so much to do, and so many ways to die. Especially since I've gone straight in at the deep end and gone Hardcore straightaway. Good thing I fired up Fallout 3 the other day, its sort of let me in gently as it were. I'm loving the inproved gun combat. Aiming down the sight of a Varmint Rifle and picking off a tower guard from behind a bush is awesome, no VATs required! Some odd things happening though, but 'good' odd things. I have a repair skill of 35 at the moment, but I can repair armour and guns to 100%? Don't get me wrong, this is actually an awesome perk, but I feel like I'm cheating, and I want to beat the hardcore mode properly see? Oh, and how is stealing from the Powder gang neg Karma? Eeeh.
I hate hardcore mode sometimes. I always walk around with damaged limbs cause there are never doctors bags around Lost Boone and Rex cause of random impossible fights And the Doc just vanished even though people will ask if he plans on stealing stuff
