Fake synopsis: I can't believe this thing is THAT persistent.

Back in July 2007, when the first movie had just come out, Paramount had already announced a sequel.

About a week after the US premiere of the first movie, a "synposis" was posted on IMDB:
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) - Synopsis
Note the abysmal spelling and grammar.

Some sites actually fell for the hoax, but then Gawker's Defamer found out where the nonsense came from:
Breaking! 'Transformers 2' Plot Synopsis Revealed! - a more personal kind of transformation - Gawker
You'd think it would end here. But NO, for some reason waaaay too many sites think that IMDB is an authority for information on upcoming projects, so the fake synopsis kept popping up in the most bizarre places.

Also keep in mind that Paramount was providing sites with a different, more accurate official synopsis. Why these sites chose to use the IMDB version instead is beyond me.

Check this out if you don't believe me.

None of these sites even saw fit to fix the crap after the movie had come out and the fake synopsis was proven wrong.

Somehow the crap even spread to German sites. Several German theaters featured a translated version of the fake synopsis on their websites, as does this major German TV station:
Kino Preview - Transformers - Die Rache

And even a German review of ROTF - by someone who had seen the movie - still uses the fake synopsis in its introduction.
    Transformers - Die Rache - Filmreporter.de

I've contacted both sites, and neither of them ever responded, nor fixed the error.

You think it'd end here, bot NOOOO.

Now we have a premature "this will probably come out some time this year, so preorder quick even though we have no official word from Paramount yet" listing for ROTF on DVD.
TRANSFORMERS REVENGE OF THE FALLEN DVD SPEC ED (Net) (C: 0-1

    Complete with the "Skorpinox" summary.

    So yeah.

That thing is everywhere for sure. I know one or two of the Australian cinemas had it as the official synopsis right up until the release of ROTF.

Heh, that is so amusing. I weep for the persons who take anything written at IMDB.com as "Official" :lol .

Especially something that's so blatantly unprofessional work, with sub-par grammar and spelling.

But then, that's the internet age for you. Why research something when you can just look it up on Wikipedia or IMDB.

That's why I don't trust in any Wikipedia entry not written by me. Unless it has loads of footnotes. Which tends to be the case with articles I have heavily worked on.

Unfortunately, Jimbob McStupid probably can't tell a good Wikipedia article from a bad one...

Wow, that's just plain awful. Skorpinox? I thought they couldn't top "Skorpinok" from the Energon cartoon.

Okay, I still don't know if his official name is 'Skorponok' or 'Scorponok', it's only a one letter difference, but 'Skorpinox'? Doesn't really sound the same.

Well, people can be retarded. :/

In 2006, Lee Tamahori, then a 55 year old man, was arrested for prostituting himself to an undercover police officer while wearing a dress. True story.

Sadly, he's also going to be synonymous with Die Another Day, even though he's actually made a really good film, 15 years ago. Once Were Warriors.

That, and the dress/prostituting self thing.

Still rather have him than Bay.......

Unfortunately, there are just way too many sites out there that don't bother to simply check to make sure something is correct. I have seen numerous sites that solely use IMDB as their sources for synopsis', even when no info at all has been revealed. But this is also why we have a strict No IMDB info rule.
