I will not join that group. What you name a kid will stick with them for the rest of their life. It is not something you screw with lightly, and that is exactly what that person is doing.

Oh man! Saw Clerks 2 recently, I won't spoil it for others, but I shivered at the thought.

On topic: Wrong on so many levels, why would anyone think that's a good idea. "I know let's make sure our child is ridiculed at school, it'll be character building!"

Name your pets whatever you want- they won't get a complex. That kids gonna grow up to be a serial killer- and Megatrons one of my favorite characters. (And kid- if you grow up and read this thread, I was against it!)

Indeed, for all my beastbox bravado, I'm against it to.

On a similar note, a friend of mine used to work for Social Services here in Manchester, and he had a family in his area whose surname was Jones. Their two kids names?

Luke Skywalker (Jones) and Lando Calrissian (Jones).

I shit you not. There are people that stupid out there.

Naming your kid something like that should be a crime. He/she would never grow up normally.

As much as the names of our favourite fictional characters appeals to us, there are just some cases where those names would not fit. A kid named 'Megatron' would be the laughing stock of the school, even if you shortened his name to 'Meg' it would elicit teasing (as that would be a girl's name then).

Having said that tho', if i ever have a daughter, i've pondered over the name 'Elita'.

    'Beastbox', that's kinda cute actually.

If 'Skywalker' and 'Calrissian' were left out of those kids' names, then they wouldn't have been as bad (Just 'Luke' and 'Lando' Jones!).

The wife at least has some sense. She set the goal at 100,000 which she probably believes can't be acheived. Lets not contribute to the idiocracy of the guy and join his group though.

If everyone's giving this guy crap for wanting to name his kid Megatron, what do you think of the guy that had his name legally changed to Optimus Prime?

On a side note, I totally agree with the posters here, that's such a horrible idea. It's just as bad as Nick Cage naming his son Kal-el.

He's an adult, and can do what he likes. He wasn't given that name by his parents, he had a choice.

If he wants to name his kid after a Transformer it should be after a more normal sounding name.
Like "Orion(awesome name anyways)" or "Elita".

and how would you enforce this?
I know I would be against a "legal" name list.

Wow. That's totally lame... at least the wife has the honest sense to put the number at something ridiculously high. And even if he does achieve that goal I seriously doubt that she'll allow him. I mean, can you imagine the poor kid going to school with a name like Megatron? The other kids aren't going to be like 'hey, cool, you're named after a cool cartoon villain'. It'll be more like pointing fingers and massive beat downs once he's in High School. Kids with 'exotic' names tend to get picked on no matter what... even if it's something as simple as being another ethnicity that you don't hear everyday... and that's pretty bad. Which makes this much worse. The father needs to have his head examined for even thinking of this.

As for the guy whom had his name changed to Optimus Prime... he's a legal adult and can do as he wishes, but I have to wonder what kind of crap he gets too. But again, he's an adult and can make his own choices.

Why would you name your kid after a villain anyway?
It's like having a sidekick named Speedy and NOT expecting him to get into drugs.

For some reason I find that funny. It reminds me of this one guy I went to school with who's parents named him Rosiel (apparently after an angel from some sort of biblical texts) and we all used to call him Rosey... or Rose... or anything funny that we could make fun of his name with...
