I just started kitbashing for the 1st time and when I started to cut into the plastic with my dremmel,of course it smelled like plastic burning (it wasnt literally on fire, I guess most of your are familiar with the smell), my girlfriend told me I need to wear a mask or do it outside because of the plastic smell and dust. Do most of you use a mask or cut plastic outside?

You should to be safe, but I never did.
The only thing I do is wear goggles because I've had burning melted plastic shot into my eyes. It's not fun.

I don't use any type of mask, but safety glasses I would highly recommend.
I learned that after the first cutting disc I used shattered.

I wear safety glasses, but what I am curious about is the fumes or the smell causing other internal health problems. I tried searching online and could not find much, only burning plastic and the environment, but nothing about just cutting into to it and slightly heating the plastic.

I have to wear eyeglasses to see, and (while they're not "protective") I'm generally fine using a rotary tool.

I use a basic painter mask you can pick up at most hardware and home improvement stores. And getting one with a filter wouldn't hurt either.

if you can smell it, its not protecting you, so maybe a filtered one is better
