I don't want that to get lost in the shuffle of the other thread. It might be important to some, it might not.

It doesn't bother me as I've never been a fan of combined units.

I'd much rather have seperate systems than one unit that does everything, which is why I have a seperate DVD player, plus consoles that can play DVD's

Doesn't matter to me either. The PS2's graphics got worse the more you played DVDs and besides I have two regular DVD players...game consoles are for games lol. IMO.

    o_O ;

With the undercarriage of peoples TV's becoming a warzone, really this should have been included.

That's the first I've ever heard of that.

Not sure what to think of this. DVD players are insanely cheap today. The quality of the PS2 dvd playback is probably worth about $10 today. I think they could take a $10 cut in order to market another key capability that the Wii would have.

I think it's fine. Indeed, I'm kinda glad I'm not paying for a feature I'd never use, since like most people I've already got a DVD player.

didn't they say they weren't adding the DVD feature from the get-go.

it dont matter though, if it brought down the price, then good.

I think you mean the DVD drive possibly wore out faster. It didn't affect the graphics at all.

I actually have been using my PS2 as a DVD player since I got it five or so years ago. I like being able to do that because at school I just have the one unit, and not multiple ones. The fact that the Wii doesn't have one doesn't bother me too much because I'll have access to a DVD player anyway.

No I'm sure he meant that after using the dvd drive 20 times the graphics become PS1 graphics. After 50 times it becomes Genesis graphics. and after 100 times your favorite characters from Metal Gear are reduced to two weird lines with a bouncing ball in between them.

I could care less. I have good quality players for the living room and bedroom, and I just got a $30 unit for the exercise room. That's what it cost me to get the DVD remote for the XBox.

Hell, even my parents have a DVD player now, which means, by law, everyone else in the 48 contiguous states has to own one.

Yes! No DVD = less chance of breakage.

Since I already have a DVD player, a Laptop with a DVD player and TV out, and may buy a PS2 and the games I missed for that once the price drops again after the PS3 release, the Wii not having a DVD player built in is hardly a concern.

Infact the lack of DVD playback is a good thing, I would hate to be paying for a feature I had to use for.

Not a big deal to me. My laptop has a DVD player. I have a PS2, and there's also the actual DVD player hooked up to the TV at home. I agree with Nintendo's logic. The majority of people already have DVD players in one form or another. And if it makes the Wii cost less, I can get behind that.

I'm curious to see if they have a solution using the account method in thwarting piracy of old games.

    oh and I found this

    http://media.wii.ign.com/articles/732/732718/vids_1.html

I knew any on screen cursor would end up looking all shaky. That is a shame.

Everyone is accepting this so well...I wonder how people would take it if it was the PS3 claiming this.

I personally don't care, I've been using my PS2 for a DVD player for a couple years now with no hardware issues or concerns, and my modded Xbox could do it if the PS2 ever broke, so I don't really need another one.
