My collection, as of now, focuses on G1, Classics, and Animated lines. I'm looking for opinions on what other lines are worth starting a collection.
Considerations are price, availability, and figure quality.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Masterpiece/Alternators

    Best lines in my opinion.

Beast Wars. Good toys that are still relatively cheap.

Everybody mentioning Alts or BTs should check Epay and remember the OP said to keep price in mind.

They're nice figures no doubt, but the prices on the secondary market go up and down. If you were after any, I'd get them before the movie hype hits full scale, that drove Ebay Alts/BTs up way higher than norm.

Well, there are the five Transformer Revoltechs that are pretty easily available and decently priced. If you haven't seen them, they don't transform and are a bit smaller than deluxes but are super-posable and very fun. I have no idea when/if any more would be released by Kaiyodo, and haven't heard any definitive news that any would be released in the future.

    Masterpieces are sweet, but expensive.

Naturally there's the movie line, with a shitload to come thanks to the forthcoming sequel.

I don't collect Alternators/Binaltech, though I'm temped by the Bluestreak since it's the only one's that's caught my eye. Some of those figures aren't exactly cheap either though.

The larger Cybertron bots are some of my favorites. They also jumped a good bit in price over the last year or so. Armada I can't really comment to much on. I don't have much if anything from that line as I wasn't a collector during its time and not much of it has caught my eye. I wouldn't mind collecting the mini-cons though.

I picked up the few Energon and Robot Masters that peaked my interrest but that was it. Glad I got them though.

I do recommend getting and staying current with the Alternity line since its just starting. Going back and trying to do Alt\BT's now can be rough. You can still find deals often on loose Alt's at pretty decent prices, but the harder to find ones will cost ya.

Cybertron is my favorite TF line, but I'm in the minority on that one. While a button would have worked as well as the keys, most of the gimmicks were fun and didn't significantly impact the figure as the armada and energon gimmicks had a tendency to. While some of the Cybertron toys are relatively pricey on ebay, many of the molds have been repainted and are still available at retail. Currently, I'd suggest getting one of the CD Scattorshot repaints and the Universe Countdown TRU exclusive.

I am in the same boat as you. I collect the same lines and from my personal experience you should maybe try Alts. They are great figures and sometimes you can find some great deals too. There are about 5 or 6 that will be at $50 or over, but that's the thrill of the hunt! I have gone through A/E/C and only kept a few figures (cause they fit in with my collection). Cyb. Metroplex, Dark Scorponok (Energon), Unicron, Omega Sentinel (Energon) and I need a Primus BADLY! Good luck on which ever way you go.
If you are looking for something quick and satisfying grab the BW stuff (it's very cheap)...

    take your pick:

BW - Cool figures, very lot's of different molds
BWII - BW repaints and some really cool excl. molds
BWneo - BW repaints and the coolest excl. molds
BM - Bad toys, small line, cool show!
RiD - Best nuTF-line out there, cool molds, cool toys, cool characters
Armada - Gotta catch them all. Repaints, minicons and repaints! (Though I love microns!)
Energon - more repaints! and the worst molds since actionmasters.
Cybertron - Awesome molds, Awesome variation in sizes. Very cool line
Movieverse - If you are into custom TF's these are the best toys. Just plain from the shop these are among the most hated.
Robotmasters - cool repaints from all the era
    Classic - G1

Definitely R.I.D, it's probably my favorite toyline (tied with Animated).

A lot of the Beast Wars toys are good, but after R.I.D. and Animated they're not THAT great lol.

Stay away from Beast Machines, those toys aren't very good >_<

The Masterpiece figures are great if you have lots of cash to blow.

I would say MP and Alts as well. I would rather have my MP Prime, Magnus and Grimlock than all of my other transformers. For me it is quality over quantity. I don't like massive collections but that is just me.

Go R.I.D, Prime + MaGNUS= Omega Prime is bad ass. Car brothers are too cool. And the trainbots are one of my favorite combiners from any series.

I think I may be the only person who was not that impressed by Omega Prime. I actually sold off Magnus and kept Prime. The combined mode just didn't do anything for me.
