I wanted to pick this up today, but I passed. I refuse to pay more than ten dollars for a novel. I'll prolly wait a while see if the price drops-or hopefully it will get an eventual paperback release.

I picked it up but have not read it yet. Sounds like an interesting story though.

I'm pretty sure there's a paperback version available on amazon as well, which is what I was thinking of getting.

Except Amazon says the paperback is out of print, which is semi standard for things that haven't been released yet.

Just finished the first chapter. I won't spoil anything (as if there's much to spoil in the first chapter) but, I'm not impressed.

Alex Irvine doesn't do a good job at all in the first chapter. He doesn't do anything to hook you on the story, luckily it's a short chapter. He tries to give you a summary of transformers history in the first few pages, along with a poor description of Iacon, which seems to drag on for too long. It's just a bad setup.

Storywise there isn't much to go on. Part of a conversation, another minor chit chat. I'm rather impressed with Irvine's apparent knowledge of G1 in particular. He's seems to be using elements from a number of different continuities. There's even something from the Unicron Trilogy that caught me off guard. The cover sleeve also mentions Sentinel Prime, so I'm wondering how he plans to work that character in with Zeta Prime.

Oh yeah, and I should mention these two words:

    Megatronus Prime

Yeah, I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

Weird. It didn't say out of print when I was on on the 22nd. Now it doesn't even show up on amazon.ca

Plus the hardcover used to be listed at 352 pages. Now it says it's only 288. Which one is correct?

I thought this was pretty stupid myself. I like where he got the name from—reminds me of Beast Wars—but the whole name itself is lame.

I think it would have been better to take a page from Japan and have the name Megatron as the title for gladiatorial combat champion only. Megatron being the undefeated champion just assumes the name as his own.

    Megatronus is too contrived.

I'm close to finishing the book. So far, I'm liking it. However, one thing that I kept asking myself while reading was (this goes for the IDW comic as well): What continuity does this take place in? The War for Cybertron continuity, or a completely separate one? I'm really leaning towards the latter, as it would make absolutely no sense if it was indeed supposed to be in the same continuity as WFC.

    It's a prequel to WfC.
