So with the Hasbro briefing binder Jim Sorenson posted, I had new material for an ongoing project of mine: Documenting the evolution of G1 Megatron's design. For this I used the early Microman toy design, the G1 package art and a myriad versions of the Marvel/Sunbow character model, including the version depicted in the Transformers Universe profile book series. Note that this isn't actually a linear evolution. We're talking about several people copying and modifying each others' designs, sometimes not carrying over a change or making an error that did get carried over (it seems Megatron lost his crotch detailing that way), so in reality there probably were some dead ends. The "Head 20% bigger" note is actually listed next to the "revised Marvel model" in the Hasbro briefing binder, but since the Marvel TFU model appears to be older (bigger toes, intact crotch detailing), I placed it there instead. I included the Jeff Anderson comic panel just for completeness's sake, since it has the intact crotch detailing but has the fusion cannon from the animation model (minus the round button on top of it) in the exact same position (oddly, it's also lacking the ridge on the barrel on Megatron's back and the stripe detailing on his lower chest). The Good Bye Megatron package art has a redrawn hand, hence I included it for completeness's sake. The same applies to the Action Master Megatron package art and the Studio Ox model. I'm so glad that all these images are in such similar poses. As Walky said the other day: Man, whose idea was it to give the fusion cannon a handle? That makes the hand even more useless. Thank god it got dropped.
