So the other morning I stopped by Walmart while I was waiting for my car to have a chackup, and I saw The Cybertron Deluxe Monkey Prime and Dino Megs. I'd seen Prime several times before but I'd never seen Megatron. So my internal monologue went something like this:

"Ok, so now I've seen it in person, big deal."

"No you fool! You've read on the boards it's supposedly rare due to typical end-of-toyline-distribution!"

"But I don't really have money to blow on frivilous toy purchases right now!"

"Idiot! Keep the toys MIP! Then maybe you can make the money back on ebay sometime in the next year or so!"

"Hmmmm....I suppose the $7.88 sale on deluxes is a decent price..."

"Now you're thinking straight! Buy it!"

"Ok fine, I'll get Megatron but I've seen Prime(al) a few other times...."

"God you're a moron. Buy 'em both, then sell them as a set!"

"You have a point there. Ok, I'll get them both, voice in my head. You're so smart."

So I bought them both. And of course, three days later I see megatrons at three different Wal-Marts, two targets and TRU. God I suck.

So, ever let the voice in your head talk you into something similar?

Fortunately no, but close- I've bought stuff I really didn't have money budgeted for yet because I wanted them and thought they were rare. No regrets though.

For me it's the voice inside my head telling me not to buy it because I may see it later or I may regret that purchase. So usually I don't buy it and ended up paying more for it through Ebay or elsewhere. So now I'd buy it and return it for refund if I decide I don't want it.

yup, about a month ago I picked up two of the kb exclusive snowcats cuz I coulda sworn I saw people looking for them on the boards. well I looked them up online afterward, and saw that they were going for retail on ebay, so the next weekend I took them back.

I thought that was what toy collecting was all about...

    Joking of course.

This usually only happens at the beginning of a series or a variant when they aren't packed on the shelves. Rarely does it pay off. But I guess it will matter in the long run.

Yeah, I suffer from impulse buying but I have managed to curb it better for the last few years. I used to buy stuff that looked good (design, engineering and sculpt) and if it was rare i.e. hard to find.

The crazy thing is that I don't buy to resell my stuff so I guess its more owing to the kick of owing a "rare" toy and seeing what's the big deal about it.

I went with the black repaint of Unicron over the original, partially for the rarity. I also think the black version looks cooler.

I decided not to buy E-Beachcomber, when I finally saw him and had the money, because I figured he'd "be everywhere in a month or two." I also really wanted to spend that money on Toys for Tots. Thankfully, I wound up getting him for Christmas. He's really not that great of a toy, but I love his colors.

What does it mean when you "hear" the Transformers asking to be bought? Naw, not meaning being schizo. Just imagination, but it's hard to turn off sometimes. DVD Prime alsmost screamed to be bought, to be "fixed" with longer stacks. Classics Bumblebee asked politely. Well, I am "saving" them from the hands of children.

Anyway, I did buy an Energon Scorponok when it first came out thinking that it would be limited for some reason. You can still find him on the shelves in places like Kmart. Anyway, once I've made the decision to buy, I've never been sorry for the TF purchase.

alternators swerve. I saw him, wanted to wait, but a little voice was screaming at me that I'd never see him again. I bought him, and then never saw him again.

    always listen to the voice.

She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts kid.

If you find out where that is, LMK though.

Yes, this would be funnier if we were talking about the SWTF Falcon.

And the times I've seen something 'rare,' I was most likely looking for it in the first place...like the XMC Bobby Drake variant. I knew damn well I wasn't gonna see that again.

Yeah, I've done it before too. More often than not, listening to the voice definitely pays off - Alt Camshaft naturally, the Toys Dream Project Godzilla vs. Titanosaurus set at its 2200 yen retail price (and it usually goes for $40 now), Universe Snowcat back when he was very hard to find, Dinobot Magma Type and Chromehorn Forest Type.

What hurts more than the times the voice failed me are the times I passed up the rare stuff. eHobby Astrotrain haunts my dreams with his "expensive" $80 BIN price, Energon Beachcomber laughs at me from his invisible house, and the BW Grimlock I saw on store shelves as a kid nearly kills me to remember.
