Ah well, one more reason to keep the old consoles, then. I wasn't planning on a PS3 anyway, yet, but after watching my brother take down dozens of Zakus and Doms in Gundam Musou...

 

While this list is good and the fact that it will increase over time, I hope that it's a kick in the ass to the MS Code Monkeys to get more of there games backwards compatible.

 

the wii has better backwards compatibility as it will play ALL gamecube games. the fact it won't play the transformers ps2 game is just another reason for me not to buy this overpriced, overrated piece of junk

I still want to play PS2 games as well .... which is why i'm keeping the console those games were designed for in the * first place *

It's not like the PS2 is worth very much in a trade in anyways, but if people want to shell out £420 or so for a new console to play old games, that's up to them.

And why do you think that the Wii will play every Gamecube game? Maybe because it isn't a divergent system. The Wii shares many of the same architectural attributes as the GC. The PS3 is not a PS2 with a faster chipset and a bit more RAM. It's a completely different hardware concept compared to the PS2.

This is god news for the Sony fans though, hopefully the list will eventually include some the stellar PS1 and PS2 games that are as of now, no longer backward compatible.

 

All PS1 games are compatible.

 

You know.. That would be nice.

Its a shame its not 100% backward compatible, but when I found out that my 360 doesn't play the majority of my Xbox games I was miffed for all of, oh I don't know, 3 minutes?

I ended up finding I didn't actually care all that much, but I think the fact I keep my previous consoles helps with that.
