Okay, so this thread is half "Check out the video below for quick entertainment" and half "See how people think they can explain this man's abilities".

Got that article from the website "boston.com" to give you all a brief explanation of his abilities. I am stumped and amazed. If anyone can explain the logical explanation to his tricks then I'd be happy to hear. Check out the videos below to watch a clip of him on "America's Got Talent".

(Don't think I'm breaking any rules by linking to a Youtube video. If I am, I apologize.)

I am skeptical. There is no reason to believe this isn't staged, unfortunately. If this guy can repeat this under scientifically controlled conditions with an objective party (say, the Randi institute), THEN I'll be impressed.

How could he be doing it? Assuming collusion between the hosts and him for the sake of television, he could have prior knowledge of what they were going to do, or could be getting fed information through a mic or other signalling device that doesn't rely on his eyes. Or he could have help in the audience.

I don't think anyone really believes he's a real psychic-style mind reader. Obviously he has some kind of trick. But not knowing how he does it is what makes it so interesting.

He is not psychic, he just knows the tricks to make this work. There is a show on TV, I believe maybe on Discovery that explains how all this mind tricks work.

I know how he did the Circle and a Triangle thing. He told you to think of a shape like a square, but not that one.

Our minds go to the simplest items first, it's not going to go to Hexagon. So he planted square. You take square away, our mind thinks Triangle as it is the next simplest, taking one line away.

Then he said, with another shape around it.

That planted the whole Circle thing into your mind. Around is the key, your mind thinks Circle.

He doesn't give you the time to think and switch shapes. As long as you know what the mind thinks first and how to word it, you can really mess with people.

In terms of the colors Howard painted. I would need to see the whole stage to be able to explain it.

The way the show I saw explained it, is in the background in areas you don't focus on, the illusionist plants an image or color or something else. So your subconscious brain processes pockadots for instance because a pockadotted car passed by a window in the back ground real quick. So you ask the person a split second later to name a pattern. The freshest pattern in the person mind is pockadots. Bamn, that is what they say.

All this stuff is amazingly cool though. You need to be really smart to do this shit and really study the human mind.

^ Yeah the whole circle = round thing was basically all I could guess while watching the vids. This guy is truly entertaining, no matter how he pulls this stuff off.

    Did he get voted through?

I felt yesterday's trick was poor. Not because it was a poor trick, but because I felt America would say, Howard was in on the trick. Which is BS!

This guy is brilliant. Being a psychology major, I would love to sit and talk to this guy to find out how he does these tricks. This is the new magic for our generation.

When he guessed the name when he asked Sharron to think of her first boyfriend I knew this guy was good. I have no idea how he did that considering she made it up.

Why ask a mind reader when we already know the answer?

It's all statistics. That's his trick. Statistics and psychology.
What are people most likely to choose? Take many MANY MANY samples via surveys and what not, and use that as information.

But the scary thing is he asked one of the judges who her first crush was and instead of thinking of a real person, she came up with a random name and he guessed it. There's no way surveys or statistics can help with that one.

I don't know what's more baffling; the fact that "America's Got Talent" is in its seventh season or the fact that this flimflam shares the same first name as I do.

Speaking of Erics, there's quite a few board members around here that share my name. I'm thinking we should have a social group comprised only of Erics. :lol  Just saying.

    Haw. :p

It's a very common name. Lots of people have it. I'm not sure what's so baffling.

Now if your name was Ceasar Tigermountain and he had that name that'd be spooky.

That sucks that he didn't make it.

I knew that the trick wouldn't wow America. It is fucking fantastic and they would giz themselves if he sat with them and did it to them.

The fact is, America is skeptical of all media. So they basically just said, "Howard was in on the trick" and called it a day. So they didn't bother to vote for him because it was a fake.

To be honest, not sure if a Vegas show would work for him. But I would pay money to go see him in person in a more intimate setting where he takes people up from the audience and does different tricks.

Funny enough, I was told a quote about Psychics yesterday.

    90% are scam artists
    5% are mentally ill
5% really think they have the gift
    100% are not psychics.
