Something I've been pondering and meaning to ask here for a while. In MTMTE Transformers collected energon rods on Cybertron for energy, yet on Earth the put the energy they collect in cube form. Why did they make this change? Was it easier to store or create in this form?

My apologies if this has been discussed before.

G1 is full of inconsistencies of course, but the original three parter seems to imply that Energon cubes were a new development, or at least the autobots seemed fairly unfamiliar with them as Soundwave was pumping 'em out of his chest.

    They weren't Energon rods.

The power rods were like Cybertronian batteries - they were powercells that the Energon had been transferred into.
Energon cubes seem to me to be a refined energy source, that then need to be transferred into a machine to power it. I can't recall ever seeing Energon on its own powering something, to my knowledge it always was a basic raw energy that was ready for use in another format.
The energy rods were just one of those formats.

    Maybe it was like this:
You put the rod down, it rolls away.
You put the cube down, it stays there.
