I've noticed 2 different types of packaging for this fig. One is red and one is purplish. What's the difference? TIA.

He was originally found in the black packaging and was then also available in the later "Powerlinx Battles" packaging. The figures inside each are identical.

The Megatron in the red packaging is a bit harder to find than the original as most people, at that point, were interested in picking Galvatron (the Megatron recolor). I'm not sure of any case breakdowns, but the red-box Megatron seems to be less plentiful than the black-box version.

Thanks man, exactly what I was looking for. Also, is the Megatron that is packaged with Optimus Prime smaller or the same size as the ones sold separately?

There's also two different size variants around. One being a huge leader class sized figure (I think this was the initial release) and a smaller voyager sized one - if memory serves me correctly.

Yep, the Megatron packaged with Optimus Prime in the Toys 'R Us exclusive is smaller than the one sold individually:

Shmax.com: Product Information - Powerlinx Optimus Prime & Megatron

It's the same size (Voyager, as unicronic mentioned above) as the Japanese Super Link version - Japan never got the bigger mold that we did in Energon.
