Why would someone pay $70 retail for the 25th anniversary Set of Prime when they can still get the Encore version for around $50?

Wanting to humor Hasbro's blatant attempt to take advantage of TF fan's affinity for G1 Optimus by throwing in $2 worth of extras and charging a fortune?

To take advantage of people who don't know that an Encore version exists? Not every 80's kid with a nostalgic bone in his body and kids of his own checks Transformer collector Web sites, you know...

This has been discussed to death.

A belt buckle, a comic, and a DVD are worth at least $20. So there.

That's assuming a domestic re-re-re-reissue of Prime alone is worth $50, which it is not. So there.

That really depends on your point of view, doesn't it?

Worth is determined by those who own an item and are willing to sell it combined with those who want it and are willing to pay for it.

    This.

I would say it's worth no more than an Ultra. $30 tops. It's not a new mold, there's no electronics. I see no reason it should cost more than that other than that's what they expect people will be willing to pay.

Yeah, and my point of view is that this package is not worth $70. To me the comic is barely worth the paper it's printed on, the DVD isn't really neccessary or interesting and the belt buckle is as cool as the trendy internet use of the term "this" to underscore a shared viewpoint.

3 reasons to get 25th Prime instead of Encore Prime:

    1. 25th Prime will be sold in North American toy stores. Encore Prime was only sold in Japan or in North American stores that import Japanese toys. While TF collectors should have no problem getting Encore Prime, 25th Prime should be easy to buy for everyone.
    2. It looks like they changed the colors on 25th Prime to make him more toon-accurate. In particular, the blue looks brighter.
    3. 25th Prime comes with accessories: the More Than Meets The Eye DVD and a reprint of the first Marvel Comic issue. (Or is it the first 4 issues?) There's also a voice thingy featuring Peter Cullen saying Optimus Prime quotes.

3 reasons to get Encore Prime instead of 25th Prime:

    1. As mentioned, Encore Prime is cheaper.
    2. The color changes make 25th Prime more toon-accurate, but Encore Prime is a faithful reproduction of the original 1984 toy. Original toy accuracy FTW!
    3. Long Stacks. 'Nuff said.

So which one do you get? Personally, I'm still trying to decide...

This! :D  Seriously, I like the packaging and the extras and I probably won't have to go online to purchase 25th Prime so I'm going to pay the cost. I'll probably get two of them, actually...

Here are the reasons I would get it instead of the Encore release:

    -Easier for me to get
    -The DVD
    -Easier for me to get
    -The Comic Book
    -Easier for me to get
    -Looks WAY better
    -Easier for me to get
-Cool packaging, even though I would still throw it away
    -Easier for me to get

Oh, and did I mention that it would be WAY easier for me to get ahold of.

I'm gonna get the 25th version since it's obviously gonna be easier to get (as Raven said :)  ) and that I think Prime will be a good choice to be my first G1 figure (even though it's a reissue).

Awww. Did I hurt someone's feelings?

Maybe you would you prefer QFT? Or agreed? How about "Right on!", "Righteous" or "Preach" maybe?

Or maybe you could just say you think the idea sucked instead of adding insipid and pointless comments that smugly belittle others who might actually have a different opinion from you.

I'm buying it just for the voice box thing. Seriously. I fucking love Peter.
