    Okay....which is which?

Which are the book like boxes? with the G1 style orange background?

Which are the ones that are like G1 boxes? Do they have a Japanese variant?

What are the book ones but Japanese?

What's the pecking order of these things?

I'm asking as I've recently bought a Japanes reissue Jazz. It was a good price and while I don't really like the character, I love the look of Jazz. This is the G1 looking box. Are the book ones the encores? With one box style Hasbro and the other Takara?

book style box are not encore. Encore has a g1 looking box and it should say encore right on the box in the upper left.

    Ebay:
Book style with the G1 style grid are the TRU (Toys R Us) Commemerative series
The only G1 style box out now with english print are knock offs
Japanese G1 style boxes are the Encore line
Japanese book style are the TFC (Transformers Collection) line

Not quite sure what you mean by pecking order in the this case. Hope this helps.

So it's encore, cool! Thanks for info.

By pecking order I mean like.....what's "better" or more sought after.

    Like G1>encore>reissue.

Just so you know Encore are reissues. Encore, TFC, and TRU Commemerative series are all reissue lines. So its not encore>reissue or encore<reissue, its encore=reissue.

    I know. It's all a personal thing.

Ooh ooh! Another thing, what's the quality of reissues? Will my encore Jazz have the lovely chrome and rubber tires? Will it essentially be the same as the G1 version, but of course, newer?

"Better" depends on your preferences and the specific figure.

Encore Jazz is probably 'better' than Book Jazz because Takara's Book Jazz had some problems with the head and feet. Although Book Jazz(along with all of Takara's other book reissues) included 'pages' in the book of various things: partial G1 toy catalog, Art, tech spec/profiles, etc.

Some reissues have either stickers or paint aps, what's better is personal preference. No strict pecking order that applies to everyone or to every figure that's in commone between the lines. It's a case-by-case basis.

Some reissues are more "faithful" to G1s while others have "improvements"(like Autobots having blue eyes to be like the cartoon, but their vintage toy doesn't, or book Starscream being in more 'anime' colors and having modified fists to hold his Megatron gun accessory). Again, it's personal preference between "faithfulness" and "improvements".

Hmm, again, thanks for the info.

I'll see how I feel about things soon.

I'd love to buy and collect original G1 toys, but with the lowered cost of reissues, plus their shiny newness, it's just so much easier.

Maybe one day I can splash out on good G1 toys.

Most collectors prefer the Japanese reissues as some of the US ones (e.g. Seekers) had to alter missile length due to new safety laws, or have non-functioning launchers (Perceptor, Bluestreak, Prowl etc etc).
