If I didn't have the RID releases from 2001 I would've just bought them on the aftermarket or the Sonokong releases or the Takara Car Robots releases. Buying Encore would've been a high gamble no matter how good it looks.

Takara qc became questionable on some releases last year and culminated into the recent Encore release. AFAIK it is very rare for them to do a recall on Transformers so I hope they finally ditched whatever factory produced these. Maybe it's the same factory that botched MPM04, made the fragile LG Overlord parts and various other qc issues from last year.

I don't have all the details but I know for sure something definitely went wrong. A recall on this scale with this many screw ups is downright embarrassing especially since these are reissues of old toys that were done right the first time around nearly 20 years ago. Takara higher ups are probably pissed and rightfully so.

If I were them I would recycle all the plastic from all the recalled figures to eradicate them from history and cross fingers no one ruins the next batch if 1 is ever made again.

You are stretching this shit so bad that it's pathetic, and I'm not even trying to be mean. This is nothing to do with beliefs, and continue to have yours as facts (which they aren't, but to each their own).

QC issues do not make it a collector's item. It will be laughed in your face if, or when, Takara does a reissue of these figures again with no QC issues. We're not talking a figure that's a dying commedity, Takara has these molds ready to go just like the G1 molds.

G1 figures are rare due to age and availability, not because of QC issues.

Now we're going to reach the point where you're going to make up some dumb bullshit that says G1 Reissues/Encore figures are collectors' items.

TBF, I think there are some Encores that are Collector's items like Black Megatron, Sunstorm and Detrius... but they were Ehobyy exclusives.

Ok, now supposingly IF I've a MIB Unused Black Zarak complete with full paperworks that has since crumbled into a pile of gold dusts, is it a collectible item still?

Can I ask for USD $5K for it? (Even though it's gold dusts, bear in mind it's still...Erm...Unused.)

    :lol

Kinda regretted not picking up those Mars & Snickers chocolate bars when they were being recalled.

D@mn...Those could have became collector's item by now.

I thought the discussion would shift to MP QC issues (i.e. their growing occurrences), but we're talking about keeping defective/recalled merch for their "collector's value"?

I'm not sure if that's just wishful thinking or obstinate refusal to admit it was a bad purchase! :)  Either way, it's a long (and risky) call to keep these defective things - you're running on the assumption that Takara will never re-re-release this toy! If no new copies, yes, the toy could be rare enough to get some value; but likely you will see a new release, so your window to hype (and sell) these defective things will be rather small.

Either way, I caution fellow collectors from "investing" in TFs. Their are safer investment opportunities! For example, Amazon stock before their earnings call (shares recently rose $100+!).

Since reading comprehension seems to be lacking...

No an item with poor QC will not increase in value. Nobody is saying that, you are misunderstanding.

Good point with the black Zarak. One that has NOT crumbled to dust is worth a lot and THAT is the kind of situation we were talking about.

We were discussing the possibility of the few ones WITHOUT major QC issues being considered collectors items due to the fact that the majority did have issues.

Of course the ones with bad QC are junk and will remain junk. In fact will probably be junked by Takara because if mine had been junk I'd have sent it back for a refund.

You know what? I don't like arguing, it's not what I come here for, and it's just getting us nowhere let's just leave it at this: RDV in 30 years time and we'll see who's right? :D

Only way to know unless, you know, someone wants to lend me the keys to their DeLorean.

I still think Gentei Thundercracker had the worst QC of any Takara item I've owned. But he was just more of a loose mess that nothing could stay together right. Rather than a mixup with sound clips.

Oh the mix-up on the sound chips is nothing.

The real issues are deformed feet so the cab won't close and you can't put primes feet in magnus.

Two left or right of the same part so you can't form omega prime or even transform into fire truck mode for prime.

And these are sadly frequently found issues. It's a disaster of a release!

I may get Studio Series Grimlock, but the brand unification scares me. Seems like it’s better just to see how people do before buying any figure. But it’s nothing definite as I collect nothing from the movie. May just wait til October if he’s still around.

But indeed this was a bad release. But happy that it wasn’t a complete waste for others.

That's the thing here. You're assuming that a few good copies would qualify as collectors item while I'm seeing a different light from my end.

I'm thinking the same thing as ZapRowsdower above, which is TakaTom already have these molds to begin with so they could possibly have another go at it later down the road (where they're confident enough to ensure that everything works this time round.)

This is Fire Convoy...Or rather, RID Optimus Prime we're talking about here...One of the big 4s which they know they could grab some easy money so I'm very inclined to think that a revised copy will surface in time to come.

Toys that are riddled with QC issues (and I used the word in general) hardly qualifies as collector item. If you're talking about the original TRU DX God Fire Convoy giftset then yes, I'll give you that but these?

    No.

You said yes earlier so maybe that's in your book but then again, you certainly don't represent the fandom.

There are many styles of collectors. We are all part of the fandom. Make this a community. Why dividing us that we are not a fandom just creates more bad energy. We all get the point and have various perspectives and that’s fine. Trying to label others and continue to beat your own points doesn’t get anything across. Whether me, mcart, others try to shove our thoughts is a waste of time. We can let go and for now just be happy for those that it worked out and admire the pictures that come along the way.

This, I can certainly agree with.

It was never about you, me or anyone else as it's very obvious that we all have our own perspectives on the piece(s).

    Got my replacement in.

    Here is my original:

    Here is my replacement:

Luckily I held on to the original, so I can send the hands with two incorrect panels back to Amazon Japan and keep the two correct ones.

Exactly, I think we've all said what we want and only the sands of time will reveal the future. As I said, I have no interest in arguing with anyone here it's pointless and I like you guys, we're all brothers and sisters collecting together!
I am so happy you kept your originals or I'd have been so pissed for you! Couldn't even imagine how you would have felt! Hope this is the end of your issues with this figure!

The bottom of his post says amazon Japan. So maybe not Takara Tomy with all due respect?
