I just got Electrostatic Jolt. He has gold plastic on him, which worries me. For those of you who know, will my Jolt (and 11.99) crumble?

Only time will tell. Supposedly Hasbro solved the problem but there have been reports of figures as recent as the 07 movie line (Legends Scorponok, Proto Starscream) that have had problems with parts disintegrating.

I'm more worried about Legends Gold Bumblebee. He's nearly nothing but gold plastic. The swirly kind. :(

I doubt he'll fall victim to GPS, but I guess I'd be careful when transforming him in a few years.

    Ebay:
Hasbro did not claim to fix the problem until last year so 07 stuff doesn't really tell us anything about E. Jolt. Only time will tell.

Not paint, the plastic. it's gold plastic syndrome. It attacks Transformers with gold plastic.

Gold Plastic Syndrome - Transformers Wiki

    Cliff notes:

    - Most commonly gold plastics (hence name), but can happen to any.
    - Key indicator is metallic, swirly designs.
    - Resultant of poor mix in plastic development.
    - Plastic will crack and crumble, with serious cases outright disintegrating.

And an example I first learned of through this board:

    YouTube - gold plastic syndrome

    To the OP:

He's not a figure I have myself (being a rookie collector), so I can't really judge how much he'll crumble, if he suffers GPS at all. My best advice is wait a few years with your fingers crossed.

If you collect and dont play with him, I am pretty sure it should last. But if you see "weird things" start to happen, try to reinforce it with something

That's really not how GPS works. No amount of reinforcing will prevent the toy from disintegrating.

Actually there were reports from people who had MISB TM 1 T Rex Megatrons from Beast Wars that disintigrated in the box. I remember reading it here in the past. So not touching them doen't mean it won't fall apart.

Same here, as soon as I opened him I was like Cr@p! GOLD PLASTIC! Hopefully it holds up.

His gold plastic seems to be lighter in color that the normal crumbling gold plastic so I wouldn't worry about it. Cybertron Repugnus on the other hand...
