While Leader Class toys are required to have electronics, smaller size classes are not. While this may be for the better, since there isn't as much space in the smaller figures, I was looking at the Tron Legacy figures and thought about how cool it would be to see a similar light up function in a WFC toy, where the electronic lines on their body could light up and glow. There could be light piping installed in ball joints and the like to pass the light to other parts of the body. So, what are you opinions?

I'm not familiar with the Tron figures you speak of, but I can't say I'd have any major objections to electronics (ie lights/sounds) in deluxe TFs, for example, as long as no compromises were made in terms of the transformation, posability or kibble etc.

Unfortunately, I can't see this ever happening as I feel any added component would be too obtrusive for the size we're talking about.

I honestly hate electronics, I take the batteries out of my leaders 'cause I hate the sounds, and I don't want them to screw up in the future.

I think the reason only larger figures have electronics is because more often than not they can be engineeered around them due to the size.

I remember when Voyagers had electronics, but that's the smallest I ever recall TFs being giving electronics.

I think another part of the problem is that due to the limited space in TFs sized at deluxe and below is that not all of them could accommodate electronics, and as it would need to be a class-wide 'gimmick' you either give it to all of them or none. And it could surely never be possible to engineer all future deluxe TFs with the components in.

well, i think Transtech prototype deluxe Starscream was going to have lights (no sounds), and I think that lights could be added to smaller figures (sadly, I don't think that this could happen... costs would be too high for just a deluxe)

I agree with this however i think it would be pretty cool if either hasbo or a third party did some kind of universal led fitting for the 5mm fists like g2 laser prime had but universal. Or hasbro just made some light up 5mm peg guns with deluxes that would be petty cool.

Battery boxes for electronics means small figures will become big bricks. I'm not ready to go back to toys that look like they came from the 80s

I don't think electronics add too much to the toy (other than that huge brick in the middle), so I'm happy with the occasional Mech-Alive gimmick.

I als loathe electronics and typically disable them....I'd e perfectly happy if Leader Class toys didn't have them.

Light up weapons on the other hand don't bother me. Bring on more of those.

Unless these Tron Legacy figures also transform I wouldn't be impressed with them having electronics in them.

    NO

electronics and small transformers do not mix...electronics and all transformers do not mix...because the electronics cost means other items get neglected...paint...plastic quality ...etc

I wish they would just get rid of the electronics gimmicks all together....look at botcon transformers...no electronics gimmicks and they seem to sell like plastic gold...

I love the electronics in Leader toys, but I'm not sure how they'll function in smaller sizes. Maybe a light-up function won't be that hard to pull off, but a soundbox for sounds might not be easy.

    Use Cell Batteries.

If the Radicons can get working LEDs into deluxe class figures I see no reason why Hasbro can't figure it out. I'd kill for some working light up weapon/eye gimmicks to bring texture to clear plastic when natural light isn't always an option.

Pointless gimmicks, w/ very few exceptions.
