Anyone ever see these? I stumbled across one a month or so ago online. I decided to get it two days ago. Ordered it from Target.

They are actually pretty cool. The algae, shrimp, bacteria, ect. are contained in a glass dome. Basically, they take care of themselves.

For those interested, be warned. They are NOT cheap.

I've seen them before, seemed cool

I think you have to keep them out of direct sunlight or you could kill everything

looks cool like gold fish for people who really don't want to take care of them (perfect for me)

Is it supposed to sustain itself indefinitely (under normal conditions)?

Seems like a cool idea... I bet they'll come down in price eventually. Too expensive to warrant a purchase now, IMO.

Under normal conditions, it should, however, the company does have a replacement and a "recharge" policy should any of the shrimp die.

I had the smaller "pod" one a few months ago that someone gave me as a present - I had it for all of a day before the goddamned cat batted it off the table trying to get the shrimp.

They are supposed to live for years. Don't put it anywhere the cat can get at it.

    More like EMOsphere, amirite?

Joking aside, that looks like something that could qualify as a pet, yet self-sustains itself. Nice invention. :)
