If you didn’t know and you probably didn’t last night was Earth Hour. http://www13.earthhourus.org/ All these cities around the world where going to turn out the light for one hour 8pm-9pm. San Francisco was going to be one of them so we thought it would be cool to go up to the Marin headlands and watch the light go off and come back on. So here we are at about 7:20pm Big cargo ship going under the Golden Gate Bridge, very cool. 7:40pm or so, getting darker. 7:55pm low light setting on my camera having a hard time now. But every one is getting excited. And now 8:10pm Ten minutes after the dramatic moment lights where supposed to go out. Wow, they turned off the tower lights on the GGB. Weeee. The equivalent of taking maybe 2 cars of the road, to bad like 30 cars drove up to the headlands to watch. Just before we left in disappointment a car pulled up and the guy hopped out, came over to where I was standing and asked “Is it over? Did we miss it? Was it cool when the lights came back on?” I told him “This is it, it’s still happening.” Now I didn’t expect the whole city to go black, I expected street lights to stay on. At the least I thought the skyscrapers in the financial district would have gone off. All and all a let down, at lest I got to take some cool pics.
