So basically, what were some of our first experiences with the internet, and how did we take to em? Also when it comes to forums & other account based things, what sort of usernames did we use?

For me, I think it started out with looking at Pokemon pictures & gameboy crap when I'd go with my dad to his work because we didn't have internet at home until I was already in grade 6 I believe. I didn't really have a lot of time when I did this so I didn't get very involved, but that was my 1st moment. However when he got a laptop, I made due with Dial-up for many years, much of which involved Neopets/wrestling, and reading Pojo articles about games & things. I didn't really post on forums because I couldn't type worth shit, but those were the 1st things I can recall being into in the beginning.

I started using the internet because of YouTube videos when around early 2006, and then around september 2007 I joined a Ben 10 message board, which closed down three or four months after I joined, surprisingly unrelated events. Then I joined another in 2008. Left in 2010. And a year before that I joined TFW :) .

TFW so far has been the best place I've been.

Yeah, this place has definitely become one of my favorites, and I originally didn't even intend on posting very much when I got here. Things just... happened.

Also as far as forums go, Pojo was one of the 1st (as they used to have an avid Pokemon & DBZ cardgame section), but I also spent some time on a pro wrestling board when I was little. I don't remember the name or really anything unique about it, except that I ended up getting banned for making a post about how I thought Rene Dupree or someone should beat John Cena for the US title. Good times were good haha.

Netscape, Alta-Vista, Dial up at Home, and case-fresh Swoops for $300.

    It was that long ago.

Fuck yeah, Netscape was great. I remember hating IE from day one because I'd never be able to load my stupid gameshark codes fast enough to get em all down, and dial-up didn't help very much.

Also, I had silly usernames too (which I'm gonna try & add to the thread title), one of which being Mewblue251. That one (along with Majin_Boo38) should still be active on Neopets, and I think I went by shit like "Crimsonite" or something on wrestling boards.

Yeah, I think a lot of us thought our names were great back then with these things, even though many if em were worse than what the spambots of today name their bot accounts. At least none of my stuffed animals had numbers at the end of their names, even if "Panda, Pinky & Brownie" weren't the least bit original to name a few.

My Internet debut took place around 1997 or so. I ran on dial-up and Netscape; the Anime Web Turnpike and its many links to fansites for my favorite series were my principal haunts.

Yeah, I think I just thought I was cute and endearing, naming myself after a care-bear. Confettigirl sounded sexy to my adolescent ears and I thought I would come across as totally seductive bahahaha. I am sure I was a real lure for the paedos. Good thing my internet usage was strictly monitored by my loving parents, or I could have really gotten into trouble, especially as I was very naive then and would have been an easy mark (not now though).

I had a blue bear I named Ethel as a young girl. I also had a panda, called panda and a black stuffed cat called Sooty (From the Sooty Show - although he looked nothing like the real Sooty). I had a baby dressed in a pink romper called "Pink baby"...I was the queen of original names, lol.

It was 1997 and we got our first computer, along with this crazy thing called "the internet" that made loads of bleeping noises and no-one else could use the phone whilst you used it. I used it mainly to look up cheats and walkthroughs for my rapidly-expanding computer games collection. I also remember discovering email, and the next day in school I told my friends about it. We went through a phase of sending each other an email at night with highly informative content along the lines of "Can you believe that phone lines are sending us words? How radical is this!" and then coming into school the next day and saying "DUDE, I totally sent you an email last night!" and there were high-fives.

    I feel so old.

Oh yeah! The whole dial up fiasco! "muuuuum, tell dufus to get off the internet so I can use the phone". And then the sloooooow time it took to actually connect, then the repeated drop-outs!

I remember downloading a Cindy Crawford picture that was maybe 600x800 and 256 colours, and it took half an hour or something stupid.

I also remember vividly getting Doom 2 to work over the internet, and running around the first level trying to grab the shotgun that's outside before my frient chainsawed me in the back. Good times.

Does using a modem that you have to attach the handset of your phone to and calling directly the computer you want to reach count?

Yeah I go back that far.

My earliest memories with Internet goes back in 1993 or 1994, when AOL was all the rage. I used dial up to go into the net, and used it mostly for chat rooms. Unfortunately the World Wide Web just came out at the time and there was hardly any URL that you can go to, so you used it mostly to find people in chat rooms and IM them, or use ICQ to find people. Boy do I feel old now... I bet most young people don't know what the hell I am talking about.
