I just discovered that a G1 Hound figure that I purchased for parts quite a while back has the takara circle marking w/no date (as on diaclone/pre-transformer figures) where the G1 figure has the takara japan 1980-82. Would this indicate that this is in fact a diaclone jeep and not a G1 Hound? I'm confused with the date stamps, as I do also own a GiG Auto Robot pre-Transformer Jazz and it is marked takara 1980-1982. Is there a resource I can go to for these stamps and how to use them to identify transformer related toys by line/origin? Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

You have IMHO a Diaclone Hound or a early G1 hound. The circle stamps were the trademark as far as all Diaclones go. I am sure there are possible sticker differences n such as well as accessory differences (meaning loaded launchers) hope this helps.

    What Shakira said. :)

There's a copyright stamp page by someone named Crazy Steve, located here (Warning: Pop-ups and annoying ads ahoy.):

Mark of the Takara: Crazysteve's Transformer Stampings Page

Ironically, one of its few missing images is the Hound one. :(

The best source of information would probably be Fred's Workshop, but it disappeared after GeoCities went under earlier this year. However, I saved a copy of the relevant files in my site rip zip archives:

RapidShare: Fred's Workshop - Transformers Variants (WinZip)

Warning for potential downloaders: Here're the statistics:

    Archiving program used: WinZip 11.1

Check out the following files for detailed information:

IMPORTANT: Please note that the links are all broken (by that I mean you can't just extract everything into a folder and have a fully functional offline version of the site at your disposal) and you'll have to manually locate image files by name, but at least it's something. :)
