We've all seen a few people on youtube getting the new figures for this year REAL early. They buy off of Ebay from someone in Hong Kong or whereever. Most often they are paying 50 to 100% more for a toy PLUS shipping. These figures also often don't come with a box or instructions.

Now most of these people were getting figures in April and May. Many of the new animated and Universe lines weren't due out until late August and september, but the releases of Wave 2 and 3 animated and Universe 2.0 already in June blew that out of the water.

I was thinking I was going to have to wait for another month at least for many of the figures I bought at retail a month ago.

So the question is, to those early buyers, was it worth paying through the nose for those figures? Not trying to get someone angry, just trying to get their feelings on it. Could be that they have the money and really didn't want to wait and for that I say all the more power to them.

They will ever be worth it.....I only see the purchase of the crack as E-Cred and bragging rights. Well the joke is kind of on them for spending sooooo much on these toys when they will never get their money back out of them. Not that most collectors get toys like this to resale anyways but just to have them NOW....me thanks they need to learn a little patience...but that's just my opinion and if you have the money to blow on them.......then do it.

^^ Agreed, but if I had the money to blow on this "plastic-crack" I would get me a nice G1 Overlord! It has to suck a little to pay that much for those figures, but to each his own...

50-100% more, in some cases try 1000% more.

I think we have to consider not everyone can get access to full releases at retail due to distribution issues/store locations. Might not be worth the hassle for them.

Not TFA, but I bought a SDCC Nemesis Prime for $55 shipped. There's possibility that the figure would become available at retail here (Australia) like past SDCC exclusives, but I didn't want to miss out. Adding the fact that a voyager costs $45 at retail made the decision much easier.

If I know I can definitely get a certain figure at a retail cost I would wait.

edit, wow I am not allowed to use T F A? Turns up as TFA.

I bought a couple animated figures early, but only paid about $20 extra for them all combined. I don't regret it in the least.

why do we need soooooo many threads on this topic????

so no the joke is not on us, we chose to do it and we did.

no we dont need to learn patience, who the hell are you to tell us so?

personal for me, i saw them, i bought them because i wanted them and was very excited for the line and chose to spend the extra money i earned while busting my ass at work.

i bought ALL the CONS for the animated line all before retail and DO NOT regret it, why would i. i knew the line was coming out, i didnt do it to make an investment.

i dont think this topic is something everybody or anybody that asks the question will understand.

Agreed! Simple and pure economics at work here, not irresponsible, frivolous spending. I don't regret mine, I got Blitzwing, Grimlock, Lugnut, and Leader Megs, and when you figure out that you got them months in advance PLUS the gas that you save at the current rate that it's in, some people might have come out on top.

How is there anything to understand?

Essentially, early buyers went with the "Payday Loan" model.

You got something now at loan shark prices.

I don't see how it's complicated in the slightest. Early buyers paid more for products that would have widespread availability a short time later. Am I missing anything?

Isn't the real question, "Did the extra money equate to an extra amount of enjoyment?"

No one came out on top in that model. Having the toys early does not have a corresponding dollar value and even at $4 a gallon and let's say 20mpgs, you could reach a wal mart with one gallon of gas. The markups were easily more than $4 and that's not even factoring in shipping.

You also have to factor in the price of them having it early too, because essentially that's what the markup is, you're paying for the figure but anything above retail is what it is worth to you to have the figure early. Hence why I think my $55 Blitzwing isn't a big deal because I've had him for 3-4 months at this point and he's not coming out until at least August or later. If we wanted to pay it, then that's what it was worth to us, and is not a rip off. People that didn't want to because they couldn't afford to/didn't want to, didn't and got them through HTS OR through retail and they paid what the figure was worth to them.

So true a little patience and you could have got one of these babies for what you saved. I have 2 of every figure of TFA though wave 3 (one open and one loose) that is out now except Leader and Voyager Megs and Bulkhead and I think I paid around $360 for all of them that's 28 figures.

I also got MIB G1 Grimlock, Razorclaw, Grapple, Ironhide and Hoist in the last 2months as well.

I guess the real question is people who spent 10-20x what the retail price was is there no other transformers that you want like G1 stuff or is it just for bragging rights?

Is that the addiction bragging rights? My 6 year old daughter does that to her friends now, I'm trying to teach her not too. She'll say "My daddy got me this Strawberry Shortcake doll but you can't play with it".

It sometimes seems like a competition which is well weird.....

It starts to get annoying everytime people keep asking if it was worth spending the extra cash for the early figures. Its their money, let them do as they please with it. Its cool if you'd rather be patient and wait for retail, but if others wanna go the other way round, i don't see how its your problem.

If you've got the extra cash lying around, go fot it. Who cares? It is ultimately your money to do with what ever you please. I jumped on some early Animated stuff (as it was not THAT much higher than retail) and I do not regret it one bit.

What i meant was i can say because i wanted to, or had the money etc. but usually each response anyone gives on this subject is countered with a "why" or why didnt you this or that, so it also to me seems like a back and forth thing.

I am not a big collector of G1, so no there were no other ones I wanted at the time. Same reasoning I might have spent over a 100 for a pre release figure as someone else might choose to by a G1 for that price, but I dont and that someone wouldnt spend that on pre release, so to each their own with their own reasonings.

As someone who usually gets things last, I say what does it matter what people who get them early pay and why should you care? They knew what they were doing and they wanted to do it, so it's no concern of ours at the least. They're happy they did it and that's all that matters.

I have to agree with you....sometimes I don't think its so much the crack part but the bragging rights instead. It is the way to stand out from the rest of the crowd and or be the first one to get a review out on a certain toy.Not that I have anything against that....cause your money is yours....

But as long as you are happy with your toy.....then what does it matter....

I thought the original question was if seeing those toys become available earlier than first predicted makes you upset, because the wait has become much shorter, not asking if spending extra was justified or not.

I guess my previous post was totally off topic for that matter :redface2:

I think this thread should be renamed, "Retail waiters pissed that others got things before them?"

The excellent pre-reviews are value added enough for lots of people. And most of us who got pre-figures barley paid very much at all extra. I mean if you go to BBTS youa re gonna pay close to 3-7$ extra per figure to get them *NOW*. Did paying 10$ 4 months ago really a bad deal?

This is like eBay threads where someone is like "MORON pays 200$ for MISB tracks! What a jerk! LAWL"

The reason they are mad is because they wanted that item but they didn't want to pay 200$ for it. It wasn't worth that much to them. But they are upset others got it at a higher price. This is basically the same thing. If it is worth retail prices to you, wait for it and hunt walmart. If it is worth more, order BBTS with premium costs. If it is worth a lot, then get pre-releases from scalpers on ebay. Who cares what others pay.

I regret nothing, as I barely paid over Canadian retail in many cases. My total overcharges come up to...pretty much what I'd be subject to if I'd ordered online to get at all the toys RIGHT NOW NOW NOW when they first showed up at retail.
