This next project involves another itch I've been meaning to scratch. For those of you who already own a version of this mold, you're probably familiar with the floppiness that is Superion's torso, and the chest piece that never snaps in securely anywhere. With a similar filler piece as the one I designed for the Universe Prowl mold, I hope to cosmetically and structurally improve this mold. As you can see in the photos below, this piece will sit snugly between the angled flap pieces and above the pelvis. For additional stability, it will also peg to the rear panel, and tab to the nose cone. This filler piece will minimize movement between the various parts, and provide a stable attachment point for the chest; no more saggy spine and torso. Once again, this is being designed in AutoCAD and manufactured by Shapeways. The cost for the prototype is around $9, and should be cheaper by the time I finish optimizing. Sweet paint job not included.
I like this idea a lot, even more than the prowl one. The E Superion mold's major problem was stability (well, and lack of hands and duplicate limbs...) so this is a very simple way of fixing a major problem.
This I can actually see viable interest in since it actually solves a problem. I admit I was critical of the Nissan mold upgrade block for being little more than aesthetically pleasing filler, but the gap in Superion's central component tends to cause his crotch to slip loose (boy, that didn't sound alkward at all did it) and collapse in on itself. So this is a good idea and I'd like to see where you go with this.
lol) Yea, I totally understand these sentiments. The Prowl thing was more of a selfish project to begin with, but I figured I'd publish it just in case there was interest. This project is aimed towards the recent interest sparked in this mold by the Fansproject kit. That accessory kit does so much for the mold, but it's a shame that is does nothing to address the inherent flaw of the torso collpasing.
Crap! Now I have to buy a fansproject kit for twice the amount it was worth when it first came out. That is a brilliant idea and totally improves Superion.
That is a very good thinking my bot chest all ways pop up - i'll wait till you finish it and mybe i will buy one
My solution for the torso issue was to place a bead of Welder glue at the top of the U section where the nose is supposed to plug in, effectively making it a peg hole O instead of a U. It's 90x more solid that way. BUT..... your mod goes one step further to address those side panels and fill in the emptiness of the whole thing, which is another improvement on the existing design. I like it.
This one I definitely like... I got the FansProject "Snowman" upgrade for Universe 2.0 Superion but because of the mold instability, he's always hunch over. If this turns out well I'll more than likely get a couple... But are you planning on working it into the transformation as well or is it going to be a kibble-tastic accessory?
I can see this being very useful for Superion, could even be useful for silverbolt if you leave the pelvis extended
Sorry, but this is a little redundant, since you're supposed to unfold the little winglets inside the torso, which serves this exact purpose.
And fails miserably at doing so. Believe me, I've tried that and it really doesn't help in the slightest. And if I'm looking at it right, this may also keep the whole chest/cockpit/head assembly held in in a way that will keep it from popping out of the back as well. Which is good, because that's an issue with mine that is pretty much exasperated by the fact that almost everything else comes apart. Actually I never checked on this, but did the Universe/ROTF Superion set receive reports of bad QC? Cuz mine's default configuration doesn't hold together at all.
nice love the idea for this a definate win. now with some nice added details and maybe a couple of flip out blaster for jet mode it be a double win
Works just fine for me (although IIRC, you have to swap the panels, since on all versions, the panels are swapped left-to-right).
