Okay, so i'm trying to burn the movie Stick It to DVD (which was originally on itunes) if i convert it to mp4 format, i'm still not sure it would work and i don't want to waste a DVD.

I've never tried burning a movie before. I would think your converted MP4 SHOULD fit a DVD disk. But, I don't bother with DVD's anymore as I rip'em for Itunes use.
What's the capacity of your DVD disk?

Basically, you can burn any video file onto a DVD, but you would have to convert it first to the correct format. (You cannot burn an .mp4 file directly to a DVD and have it work in a standalone player.) There are a bunch of pieces of software that will author a DVD for you and many are free, like DVD Flick (for Windows-based machines). On my Apple, I typically use Handbrake to convert between file formats and an older piece of software called VisualHub to author discs.
