So uh, I'm with a new girlfriend, and I found out that she secretly plays DnD... and like, I have grown up with the typical "Dungeons and Dragons are for losers" mindset... but I slightly wan't to play it, just for her benefit... I dunno. I just think the hole thing is kinda nerdy (Coming for a Transformers nerd, Right?) I just don't get the appeal, but DnD is the new fad...but really? DnD... I mean its fucking nerdy o_O
I dunno what should I do. I was invited to this nerdfest.... What now?

You're a TF nerd, she is a D&D nerd. If you care about her in the slightest, there really wouldn't be much hesitation. :shrug

You don't exactly have to like it because she does, just don't show complete disappreciation for it.

It would be hilariously ironic if she grew up thinking TFs were for losers, wouldn't it?

That's like the pot calling the kettle black. Or the kettle calling the pot racist or something.

Its funny because if you've ever played WoW, Diablo, Neverwinter Nights, Final Fantasy, or basically any RPG video game, you've basically played DnD, or something derived from DnD.

What do you do? You go, roll up a warforged character called Grimlock, and have fun. I have never understood the stigma for DnD, even in the nerd community. DnD is arguably more social than conventions, requires just as much if not more creativity than writing fanfiction, and relies more on quick-math and deductive reasoning than many puzzles.

Dungeons and Dragons was first published in 1974. Right, new fad.

Get over yourself and the stigma that is on the RPG hobby. Sure, it is typically nerdy. Guess what, we all are, hence our belonging to a Transformers collectors message board.

I met my wife thanks to an RPG. Hell, while interviewing the author, I told him as much. He loved it since he met his wife through another RPG.

Is there anything wrong with RPing? Absolutely not. I game to this day and have for almost 20 years. That is one of my hobbies and I am proud of it.

You're lucky she has a hobby like that, it'll take the sting out when she opens your closet door for the first time. D&D's a pretty cool way to socially get involved with RPG's.
The video game RPG's will have you playing solo, away from society. After 10 Final Fantasies later ,you're a bit of a wierdo from lack of society.

I tried D&D back in school , but it was too hard or something. I went through alot of graph paper lol
Always admired the art of those books & sets though. They were hard to resist back then.
Can't forget all the cool dice.

When I was a teen, one friend and I started playing D+D. Soon our whole circle of friends were playing with us. After that four other D+D groups popped up in my town, even the jocks were playing it. I think it's for everyone who can give it an honest chance. I'd still at today if I had the time for it. I say marry her.

Nothing to be ashamed of in D&D. I've played on and off for quite a while, and even though I'm in an off phase I still keep up with it. My wife plays as well, and when we go out we have a good time.

D&D is the antithesis of antisocial. It requires you to meet with a group of people and interact with them in a creative manner. Go and play and have fun. Don't think about the "geek" factor and just enjoy.

Give it a shot, for her sake. Go to have fun with your girlfriend and meet some new people, don't focus on how it's "for losers."
