Customs: Drilling Neck Holes

    Just trying to gather some info on drilling neck ball sockets in soild heads.

    Looking for info on popular drill bit sizes (for Deluxes, Voyagers, Various Alts).

    Different tools (dremels etc.) and techniques

    Pitfalls, things to look out for

    Any help would be apprciated

    Your question is quite the interesting one. The answer is quite subjective, based on what size ball joint you have lying around to use.

    I always "eye" the drillbit over the ball, and find a bit with a couple "sizes" smaller diameter, then drill to the depth I wish to have. I then use a milling bit on my dremel tool to hollow out the base of the drilled hole for the ball to rotate in.

    Whenever it's possible, I find it's best to drill up from underneath or under and into the peg of the ball joint.
