Can someone answer a question for me about Drift?

I've seen him with two different large swords in various pictures. One is the sword his figure has and the other has a more square guard.

Can someone brief me on his swords? The wiki doesn't seem to have a clear answer to this question.

    You mean this?

Is so, than it's because it's Third Party.

This would be the answer. It's artistic license, nothing more than that really.

Really? That just seems like it can't be true to me. Usually comics have tight locks on stuff like this.

The same one that the toy came with:
Large Drift Sword by Benjdude on Shapeways

    The other version:
Drift Sword by process on Shapeways

Not really. When different artists draw same characters, there are always going to be minute differences. Sometimes even when the same artist draws a familiar character, they expirament by trying a completely different style- see Don Figuara's Optimus Prime in the beginning of Transformers Ongoing.

And sometimes artists go with the flow if they draw something slightly different.

No, they really don't. At all. Take a look at IDW's series over the course of the years. If they can't decide on a style in which to draw the characters as a species in general, do you really think it's so hard that the hilt if a c-list character's sword is going to vary slightly?

    AHAHAHAHA.

Okay, let's play a game. "Which of these is an in-story upgrade for Bumblebee, and which ones are just artistic license?" (Hint: There's no actual difference between #8 and #9, I just included a close-up for the sake of clarity.)

Okay okay guys. You made your point. No sense acting like I just claimed the sun orbits the earth.

    Thanks for answering the question.
